...The Porcupine Press is a kinda tabloid-size magazine about life in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan....Anyway,there is a story in the 1/10 issue about a guy that supposedly found gold in the Big Bay area;north of Marquette near theYellow Dog River. As the story goes;he contacted the guy whom owned the land that resided in Dee-troit;tryin to get a 50/50 share of it goin, the owner supposedly told him "Why should I share it with YOU; when its on MY land??"-To which the guy that supposedly found it replied"FINE-COME AND FIND IT!!!"-It went on to say the owner of the land went up there'and never found a flake of gold......HMMMMM.....first,the Wall of Silver Mine fable in the Keweenaw up there;and now this.........

Alger Gold Prospect
Geographic location
Latitude 46.55964
Longitude -87.67135
Geographic region NA
Country name United States
State name Michigan
County name Marquette

There are 60 records for Gold claims past or present associated with Marquette County Michigan; I only counted those for Marquette county.

Apparently there have been some people who seriously felt there was Gold in that area. The Alger Gold Prospect had/has 3 mine shafts, 2 that were/are shallow and one 90 feet deep

You never know.

....Tells the story of a Silver Jack Driscoll, whom would supposedly find his way into L'Anse;in the U.P;with his pack saddles on his mule laden with gold in the early 1900's.Says in the story "TO THE NORTH OF THE YELLOW DOG RIVER",in the same general vicinity as this other story....I WONDER if this isnt BOTH these stories combined into ONE???
