Last month when testing out my modified GQ SS with both the mono and DD coil on both dry land and surf, I failed to understand the DD coil needs the delay on the GQ SS adjusted to get maximum performance when hunting in the surf. Without the proper delay adjustment the unit will false when entering the surf making surf hunting impossible. The GQ SS mono coil didn't need the delay adjusted and operated well in or out of the surf, Because of this, I assumed the DD coil should perform the same.
Recently modified my project pi to accepts both the mono and DD coils as well as a mini probe using the same connectors "male and female" as the modified GQ SS, Because of this I can use the modified coils from the GQ SS to operate on my Project pi. Also made sure to waterproof the 11" DD coil even though I felt it was.
Instead of carrying two detectors out to the beach this morning to test them against each other, My project pi was fastened to my hip and the Modified GQ SS detector held the coil to be used for the project pi and used the same headset for both units. All I had to do was disconnect the coil cable and mount to which ever detector I wanted to use for test comparison or for serious Pi searching.
The Headhunter Pi project accepted the 11" DD coil and operates fantastic with no falsing in or out of the surf, The threshold was super smooth even in the water. The delay on the Headhunter pi project didn't need to be adjusted to help the DD coil, The unit accepted the DD coil with open arms
Hooked the 11" DD coil cable to the GQ SS and again the unit was operating fantastic with the corrected delay adjustment even in the water. In fact! I was able to reduce the Sat speed on the GQ SS bringing back the loss of depth from the new delay setting helping the unit perform with both a super smooth threshold and great depth regardless if searching the wet sand or in the surf.
After testing out the 11" DD coil on both units, I switched back to the 11" mono coil and again the Headhunter project Pi accepted the 11" mono coil helping the unit perform prefect with a super smooth threshold.

In the picture above, I'm using my Headhunter pi project with Reg Sniff's 11" DD coil. I'm impressed, This coil operates well in the surf

Notice how the Headhunter Project pi above hooks up to my waist and can easily switch coil cable from one machine to the other, This set-up made it so much easier to compare both units.

Here's a close up shot of the project pi attached to the probe with a spare Headhunter pi circuit board laying beside.
Thanks for looking,
