I Think I Found A Diamond Ear Ring

I Think I Found A Diamond Ear Ring yesterday and dismissed it as junk, today I washed some of the mud and crud off of it, and MAN IT IS WHITE AND SPARKLY!!!!!! I showed my friends and they all agree that they think it is a real diamond!!! I took a lot of pictures and I even used my scanner, but sadly the pictures don't even come close to the real thing. biased on these pic's, do you think its real??? I found it like 20 min after the gold ring(also on the tobaggon hill). The edges are sharp crisp, and the mount is kinda heavy duty for a junk ear ring. Also if you look at the 1st pic, the stone is floating ( what I mean is that the 4 prongs of the mount is the only contat the base has, you can clearly see the point of the stone in that pic) I don't remember what it sounded on, I just barely remember picking it up and tossing it in my collection bag. I want to go to a jewelery shop and have them look at it to be sure. My friend at work said that the rock is worth around $500, lol, twice as much as the gold ring!!!! I was so excited about the ring, I almost threw this back!!!! A jeweler will tell me for sure what it is.

All of the pic's are dark because I had to get so close to the earing to snap a shot without it being blury. The scanned pic is ok, but it doesn't do it any justice at all.

got an old piece of glass you can try and get an edge up against? a true diamond will scratch/cut/etch glass!

I just tried it on my bathroom mirror, IT SCRACHED THE HELL OUT OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yikes:

Fake diamonds will scratch glass also. Based on looking at the setting I am betting it is a fake. But for you I hope it is real. Let us know.

hmm, i didn't realize that a fake would scratch as well. here's a webpage i found with a variety of tests. i particularly like the "fog" method.

This is from the website above. D. After examining the stone, focus in on the stamps inside the setting. A stamp of "10K, 14K, 18K, 585, 750, 900, 950, PT, Plat" indicates the setting is real gold or platinum which gives a better chance that the stone in it is real as well. While you

One way to tell without a diamond tester. See what the mounting is made of. If it is 14K gold or platinum there is a good chance it may be gold If it is 10K or no marking it probably is not diamond. Of course I have found several 14K that were not diamond but were CZ.. But for sure they usually don't put diamonds in 10K or ones with no markings. Just my opinion...Jack

A good way to RUIN a good DIAMOND is to try to scratch anything. Please do not use a diamond to scratch glass...it does knock off the sharp corners and reduces the value of the DIAMOND!!
