I am a newbie here,,a co-worker of mine sold me his Explorer II with a X-1 probe, grey ghost head phone and stock headphone, a sunray 8" coil and the stock coil ,padded minelab carrying case , all in mint condition for $200...negotiated from $250.....he buys alot of "toys "and uses it for a little , then moves on to another hobby.
My question is ....i live close to the salt water beach, is their a good site or anyone have a good program to use on the beach. I am just trying the unit now in my backyard...thanks for any help. i hope to post any good finds on here too,,what is also funny he has the same first name as me,,,Tim,,HH

Hi Tim,

I use an Explorer SE, I always use ferrous tones and all metal, that way all the ferrous will come up with a low tone while all the good stuff will come up with a high tone, the only thing you need to watch is the crown caps they also have a very high pitched tone but the cross hairs will show up in the lower right hand corner of the smart find screen.
Hope this helps...Regards....Boony

thanks Boony,,i appreciate the help,,i heard we are getting a bad northeasterner coming through all day sunday,,so,,,monday i might head to the beach..thanks,,,,,HH,,Tim

You know. If your new to detecting that old explorer is just gonna drive you nuts. I have a real cute little Ace 250 that that I would be more then happy to trade with you. Perfect for beginners! PM anytime friend. Anytime.

HI Dang....nawww,,,,going to keep this one,,,,a friend of mine has the Ace250,,,,,he likes it,,,,but he is envious of my EXplorer II deal,,,i fiqure if i don't like it,,,i could sell it for a good price on Ebay,,,but i know me,,i will work with it,,before i give up on it,,,,
HH,,Tim

The X1 probe box and connections are not waterpoof, a touch of saltwater and the machine will false like crazy so remove the probe for beach hunting.

Also take care not to submerge the coil in the water, they are known to leak and a little salt water inside the coil shell and its again going to false like crazy until it dries out. Too much saltwater and it will corrode the shield drain wire.

Oh and you would be wise to buy a big beach scoop because the Explorer is deeeeeep in beach sand! Demarco Detectors sells the best stainless scoop in my opinion and it was designed by the New Jersey Shore legend himself Beachcomber.

I own one of these scoops, I dubbed it Bad Mother. If beach riff raff attempt to bother you 1 club with that thing will give them an attitude correction.

hey Tim,i went to the beach today-didn't see ya.most of the finds were
shallow, got drenched from a stray wave while digging up a dime-then it started to rain sooo 15Min's of hunting-go back home, change, go to work.I'll try tomorrow again.of course-I'm working when it's low tide....

thanks Charles,,,,i was going to bring the probe with me to the beach,,i will take it off,,,,thanks for the advice. About the scoop,,,I do have a sand scoop,,not a big one , from using it with my White;s 6000 dipro,,..will look at the other scoops,,,,,thanks again for the help, hope to dig them Deep,,HH Tim :detecting:

You got a very good deal I paid 900 for mine with every thing you got but the head phones.
The X 2 is one of the best detectors you can buy it goes deeper than the dfx and has great separation of targets.
Draw backs are it is heavy as hell and will give you a real work out by the end of the day especially with the sunray probe.
I would not suggest bringing the minelab to the beach it was not designed for water much less salt water...keep it on dry land and get yourself a fisher 1280 for the beach...about $500 used.
Also make sure and get a rain jacket for your unit and coil covers if you don't have them already.
I have several detectors for all occasions but if I had to pick one it would be the Minelab Explorer 2 it has found many relics and coins that others have passed over. ( the vacuum cleaner)
Good luck and post some of your finds.
