I think it is junk....

Hello All,

Thought I would post this to see if anyone is familiar with this. I found this chain this weekend and thought it was silver but now have my doubts. It is marked "Made in Italy" The only other markings are "T1" on either sided of the clasp. No "925" marking anywhere. When I got home and washed it I noticed small flakes of plating on my hands which is not usually a good sign. The base metal looks a lot like silver but it may be some other metal. An Internet search provided little help in identifying what the T1 markings meant. The T1 could possibly be TI which may mean titanium. Just not sure. So, I'm throwing myself on the mercy of the court. Does anybody know what this is?

Looks nice and real but you said flakes and lack of .925 may indicate not the real silver !

Yep, the flakes in your hand are not a good sign. Too bad, it's a nice looking piece from the photo. I dug a 24 inch mariner style chain a few weeks ago stamped 14K Italy. I put the acid test to it and it's junk. I heard there are a lot of counterfeit chains going around and now I believe it. That dropped my gold count by almost 8 grams. Better luck next time. --Jerry

Yes I did and Deerman cleaned it up nicely along with my silver on of 84 grams!!!! Hope you find its real!!

Speaking of titanium I dug a really nice looking band a couple of days ago that I hoped to be white gold or even platinum (which I've never dug) but really knew before looking for markings that it was too lightweight. --Jerry
