I think you guys should put Gulfhunter in charge of Q.C., if he can't break it then you have a winner on your hands.

Humm? Gulfhunter... must be using a sand scoop as a rock scoop... or pry bar... or both!!

What he needs is called a "Pry-Scoop"!!

Let's see... he must weigh better than 200 pounds and maybe a shade over 6 foot tall? The scoops he breaks the most are mostly wood handle scoops and either the handle breaks or where it is attached to the head?
Aluminum scoops don't stand a chance with him!?
Let's see.... With a 4 foot handle and a scoop head around 10 inches long, he will have the capability to put a minimum of 1,000 pounds of force on the scoop!

Let's do some figuring,,, Nought from nought leaves tue, carry ya fre...
Yeah, it can be made! But, I have some good news... and some bad.
The price maybe a little more than a standard scoop? Due to additional material cost and liability insurance we'll need to carry... someone may try to sue us because of flying rock, etc.
Good news is, he'll be able to dig more holes and use it to lift the truck off the ground to change a tire!
And I believe it can be made to weigh less than 10 pounds!
This will also help lower the cost to other companies that's had to fix the scoops that he's bought from them and sent back for repair.

Oh... it will come with an out-of-site guarantee!! It will be guaranteed until it gets out of my site!!

Well, GH is the first to admit that he is a little rough on his toys.:detecting: I think you are pretty close on your guess about height and weight - 6'2" and around 220 lbs. if I recall correctly. As for how he breaks his toys - he seems to be pretty creative. He's broken everything a surf pirate could use in the water and in the most imaginative ways.
If your scoop lasted a couple of months then I would deem it a successful design - virtually bulletproof.
My custom scoop from Bill Babbs is still in excellent shape after 4 years of heavy use so I'm no candidate for the Q.C. position.

Actually for the record 5'10" and about 225lbs. giver' take, LOL!
This sure is a long thread and usually I don't contribute on scoops, because mine are so unorthodox. TOTALLY impractical from an ease of use perspective. I lean on the side of durability though.

Here is the monster used most often & it is 11lbs of stainless. I have 3 just in case(actually one belongs to coastwise, but he said, "Merry Christmas" after taking it for a spin. Originally they have a galvanized handle, I just throw that crap out and buy 304 stainless pipe and T-handle and have it welded up. Great in the water, anchors me well. Surge and waves don't move me around too much in 2-4' seas. Very reliable, but I did crack(bucket) it a few times, but had it welded up. I would probably sell coastwise's, but the freight would be insane. Great to have you back bda!
