I'm goal oriented. I like setting metal detecting goals. Some posters have commented that goals and a hobby don't really fit together. I still like setting metal detecting goals. Did I just say that?

That said, I took a road trip today with no particular goals in mind. I am trying for hunts of over 100 coins in 2009. Seven hours on the road. 5.5 hours of actual detecting time.

I have always wanted to get a roll of each denomination of US coins in one day. They are all easy except for nickels. Today I hit a spot that had tons of nickels so I completed what I thought was impossible or at least very difficult. The totals

1 Cent - 50 (Just made it. Yes, I was skipping a few.)
5 Cent - 40 (Just made it. A lot of nickels for one day.)
10 Cent - 76
25 Cent - 54

220 coins. Just missed my one day record again. I figure the next time I break that one I want to go big. Maybe 300 coins. Better get the tumbler ready.

I play the percentages. Dig tons of targets and eventually stumble on something good. Today I got a very thin 14K gold ring. Ye-HAAAAWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!! Only 1.1g. Toward the end of my road trip I got a very cool silver wire ring with an interesting marble. I got lucky. Didn't I just comment to my Australian friend I hadn't found a silver ring in a while? (I'm not too proud to beg.)

I wish a few more hunters would post some pics and stories. Thanks to everybody who takes the time to photograph and post their hunts.

Wow ... outstanding clad count and nice gold and silver! :clapping: Awesome day...congrats on fullfilling some of your goals! :super:

chris,

you are a hard act to follow. after we read and view your posts, ours pale in comparison. you did very well today. where are you at for the year on finds? i do enjoy your posts immensely, keep them coming. i agree that posts have been few and far between lately. i really haven't had much time to detect lately. i am planning on going in the morning. i will post my finds.

Shoot. My first response was lost in cyberspace. I am at 4000 US coins for the year. Maybe 20-30 silver items (including coins.) Four gold items. Tons of junk jewelry. A handful of foreign coins. Maybe 10 pounds of other stuff I haven't tossed out yet.

I get inspired by seeing others post good finds and even plain old clad. I am very fond of finding clad and like I wrote, if you dig enough of it, the good stuff will follow. That is my entire strategy.

Thanks for reading and for the kind words.

Chris

Man your really finding lots of those clad coins Your really on the roll.

stunning finds mate & just when your Australian friend was starting to feel sorry for ya .

Were you using the Ace?

That's the key to getting rings and things. You got to play the percentages. The more you dig, the greater the chance of getting a gold or silver ring. Keep them coming. :)

Well done Chris!:clapping: Reaching high goals is real sweet! and today you can sleep with the knowledge that you did it.
Even managing some silver and gold in the mix. Cool!
Mick Evans.

Chris - Awesome hunt! The nickel count is mind blowing! I haven't been out on a hunt in 3 weeks. Work, Yard work, illness etc..:garrett:

I like both the Ace and the 2500 but I always reach for the 2500.

Chris

You never cease to amaze me, sir!:please:Congrats on the gold and silver!:thumbup:WTG!:clapping:Incredible clad count! Happy Hunting!

Nice try, I seen you at the bank (picture) your the Coin Dance Kid, fastest swinger in the west and you just robbed another yard.WARNING if you see the Coin Dance Kid do not try to out swing him, many a good men have tried and failed. CDK is known for carrying 2 detectors, pin pointer in his belt and a digger in the boot. The best thing you can do to keep the Coin Dance Kid from getting your loot is to get out there and hit as many tot lots ,parks, schools, and yards as possible and post your finds for him to see. Cause if your not hunting the Coin Dance Kid is and he'll get your loot to. Great hunt pal, sore back?

Oh to be made a parody of one of my favorite characters ever. "Tell him he has to ask us to stay."

Wait till you see today's hunt.

Chris

Three weeks. I'd be climbing the walls. Get out there and find that gold you've been wanting!
