Unless that bird is a good 18", it's not a piliated woodpecker. Also, they have a very unique shape to the head, similar to a Pterodactyl.
Not sure from the picture how big it is but here are your choices...
The Downy Woodpecker is about 6"

The Hairy Woodpecker (often mistaken for the Downy) is larger (about 9-10" with a longer beak)

The first Pilieated I saw was in the Smokey National Park. About 5 or 6 of them and they looked like Disney animatrons. Of course, we were so freaked out at what we were seeing, we never took a picture
