I will never use a VLF detector again in bad ground....

It cuts through minerals, cold and hot rocks without a peep. It has very good tone id on different conductors. For depth its as deep as I want to dig. What do I use it for? Civil War Relic Hunting. What detector is it? The Mine lab GP 3500. I've moved into the future of metal detecting. Won't be going back.

Hi buttondigger
I agree you are a step ahead of the competition with your GP3500 in the relic hunting arena. Certainly nothing out there will touch it in the depth department. However, you should be aware that the GP3500 pros(nugget hunting) will tell you that the iron ID capability of the GP3500 is not reliable. Their philosophy is "Dig it all". As it does not have an adjustable pulse delay as the Infinium or the GS5 does you can not use reverse discrimination on the GP3500.

I have never used the GP3500 just an earlier SD2200d. In heavy iron infested sites I basically gave up after digging incredibly deep iron targets all the time. I simply waited until a PI with reliable iron ID appeared. That is why I now own a GS5. It does pretty good around iron. Put a silver dime right next to and just touching a bottle cap and it can distinguish both of them (ferrous and non ferrous) with a NF 5"X10" coil. Also put a couple of small nails on a silver dime and it can still ID the target as non ferrous.

Would love to go out with you and swing my GS5(if Eric ever returns mine)with your GP3500. It has been a long time since I did CW relic hunting.

Have Fun

I have dug very little iron with my 3500. All targets that have been smooth high tones have been small lead or brass buttons. I set the signal control to help id targets with various breaks in tones. The disc is very good on large iron. Small wire gives a warble high tone. I would never use any PI in good ground as long as there are good VLF"S . After my hunt at Brandy Station I will never use a VLF detector in bad ground again. Tex

Why yes I am. Share the same passion with many years under my belt.
