i'am going Utah, would like some advise'

Next month I'am going to get to spend a week in Salt Lake City, I have never been that far west and would like to see some of their great sites. I will be staying in salt lake city the entire time, can anybody give me some cool places that is near salt lake city to visit? what about metal detecting in Utah i read you got to be careful there due to laws i would love to lake my detector.
