If one could only

If one could only go back in time to some of these old mining areas, just to watch. I came across this frame of a vehicle and wondered why it was there. Was it left there as I found it or was it whole, was the motor used as a power plant, if so why not the gas tank. Or did some young haples feller just run out of gas on a date and vandals got to it?
Did some checking to determine what make it was, but there was nothing.

It was obvious that this other vehiocle was used for a power source in a mine, and it looked like it took alot of work to get it up the mountain and it wasn't that many years ago.

The 3rd picture is of a work shack in the same area, ready to fall over.

Go back in time and be like a fly on the wall. Just to watch and listen to things that have gone on. Like the coin you found laying at a mining camp, watching it get lost and by whom. Then flowing through time and watching a detectorist coming along and finding it. Watching gold being discovered. You are right it would be fun. Thanks for the photographs. Post more when you get time I sure enjoy them. Thanks again. HAGD

That chassis is very old. Probably not enough of it to put on ebay. . .

How's this?
WA goldfields. . . it's clearly of US origins.

Ora Banda, That brings back a now fond memory, But at the time was not very plasent.
Hooked up with 3 AU.in Leonora & they took me there to meet some Sandal Wood cutters who were going to put us over some gold, What a laugh, All they put us over was another beer. We parked behind this beer joint to camp for the night & take a shower.
Don't ever try to match drinks with the Auseys, I gave it a go for I wasent about to go out behind that joint & spend the night by my self. :) chuck,tx2
Emage is my home for 6 mo. Parked over a great patch not far from Leonora AU.

I know the folk you talk about chuck, we have our own 'ferals' over here. LOL

Not sure if the pub is still open; the owner told me he was more than ready to go back into Real Estate.

At least the majority of the Bush hasn't changed. You can still get a good camp with plenty of wood almost everywhere.

I sold that cruiser for $50.

Lemons U could get a good price for that car here in the states. They are really scarce.
I could not get my friends out of that joint & I didn't feel comfortable sleeping behind that pub. I camped all over W. AU.alone, With no problems.
I made a bad choice & lost 10.8 oz. By camping with those guys. I found a specie patch & debated whether to tell them knowing the danger, but shoes toTake a chance. BAD CHOICE. THAT IS A GOOD WAY TO LOSE FRIENDS & GOLD. ,,,,,,, CHUCK

Chuck, How on earth did you lose 10.8 ounces of gold by camping anywhere in Western Australia?? I'm not sure behind which pub you camped but I'd hazard a guess at Broad Arrow Tavern or Kookynie pub.

Was it stolen from your camp? Ask Doc - I've spent a lot of time in the WA Goldfields and have never come across this type of thing before.

The only exception was a persons naiviety in showing a nugget in a pub bar and it was stolen by slight of hand.

How did your disappear?

You will have to read the entire thread Les.
do you know if the Ora Banda pub is still open and who has it?

lemons

Lemons,

I do believe it is open again. I think I saw a doco on TV about 3 months ago about it. Either that or it was in "The West Australian" magazine. A new couple have bought it after Don Hancocks demise and they have fixed it all up.

But how does one get swizzled out of 10 ounces of gold?? I'm really puzzled.

I've seen the old "you listen & I'll dig it trick" performed quite admirably, I've seen a swifty done with a nugget being passed around in The Desert Inn in Laverton and I've seen the "you drive the bulldozer & I'll detect" trick. But how did he get done for 10 ounces??

Les

Bad choice of words, it was not stolen, I gave It away, is more like it. I was invited to camp with these 3 blokes that were camped close to me at Mt.Ida. As a rule I don't trust guys with full heads of hair :) But I was a long ways from home & sitting around a camp fire at night by ones self is not a good thing. I prefer to hunt alone, On the way back to camp after a long day, I hit a patch of 8 nuggets, I wasn't going to tell them about it, For I had been down that bitter road before, But siting around the camp fire that night after a beer or 2 with my good friends with hair, I told them about my patch... There was no way they would move in on me. RIGHT? WRONG.
The next day I took them to my match. I told John to go up the hill & work down,& Dug to go down the creek & work Pete was to hunt on the side of the hill. I told them I was going to hunt here where I had found my nuggets the day before. S++T, They turned on there detectors & preceded to hunt with no attempt to hunt where I told them too. There were 4 det. blasting away in one spot. I gave up & stood there watching them dig up my gold. If that happened at home some one would have got there ass whipped, But I was a long way from home. It would probably be me for I have never won a fight yet, it wasn't because I haven't try-ed. John found a 7.8 oz nugget & Dug found a 3 ouncer that I seen.
The best advice I could give any one is to keep your mouth shut & ears open when it comes to gold. I am too dam old to take my on advice.,,, chuck,tx.

Chuck,

I can only apologise for the behaviour of these Aussies. Unfortunately, over here, prospecting is very much a cut throat game. There's money to be made because the patches can yield a reasonable amount of gold. That may not be the case in the USA. Consequently, it maybe more of 'sport' over there than it is here.

I'm afraid that what you've encountered Chuck is all too common over here in "Oz". The days of integrity amongst "Aussie Diggers" disappeared along with camel trains and condensers. "Sporting rules" over here are non-existent. Even amongst the best of mates I've seen major disagreements over gold that have resulted in the breaking up of 50 year old friendships.

We're all mates until the gold starts coming out of the ground. Then, it's dog eat dog.

Good luck in the future, Chuck. I hope you'll be back. There's plenty more patches here in Western Australia.

Les

Le-Slow, I don't blame them so much, For I have been around the gold fields long enough to know better They were darn good camp fire mates, Not 10.8 oz good. :) We all wont our mates to find a little ( little ) gold, But not the mother load. when we are on a role & they are having a dry spell.
Dug went into town for a couple of days & he ask me to watch his camp while he was gone, I drank all his beer. Man O Man, MAD,, You would have thought that I had slept with his wife, I thought he was going to have a heart attack. chuck,tx.

Chuck,

To an Australian, drinking all his beer is far worse than sleeping with his missus! But at least ya got yer own back a bit.

But have no fear, there are a few gentlemen out here in "Oz". But I stress the words "a few".

Doc used to think I was a gentleman, but I notice he didn't put MY picture up. Hmmphh,,,,,,,,,,,,the love affair is over I guess, Doc ;)

Les

LeS, you got friends and you got . . . friends! Drinking all the beer is an atribute that few Aussies have learned to explore properly. You need certain skills. in fact if you examine the use-by-date on the bottle, it's a matter of honour to decant the stuff before it goes completely off.
Don't worry about THAT crew, chuck, they need the benefits of socialisation. . . not easy, but necessary. . . Haircuts!
you hold em I got the shears. . . LOL

lemons

Lemmons, That was the way I saw it, You cant help some blokes, I thought sure he would thank me for exposing of that crap before it spoiled. chuck,tx.
