Go down to Jan 23 and read the post on The Ring Tab Puller. I made one yesterday and used it today and dug a lot of alum but i got a nice mans 14kt Ruby Ring with a Fancy W Initial. It weighed 5 Grams. Took about 1.5 hrs of hunting to pull it up. I am a jewelry hunter and this thing once you got the technique down it is really fast and works great. Got to add a bike grip with a flange on it so hand won't slip down to the blade. Anyway for you guys that are snowed in and are getting bored it is a real nice thing to make yourself and save a lot of time. Love mine. My SE has got to go back to Factory. If you lay a qt, dime and nickle down swing right to left the tone changes but the digital or the cursor stay locked on the first target QT  :rage:  . Anyway it has got to make a Road Trip. Hope it will be back soon. Later Jerry aka Tinfoil

I guess you would have to bet the technique down on locating which way the ring/pull-tab was oriented before being able to retrieve it.

I could have done without part with the guy pulling snakes through his nose and out his mouth though. Kind of makes me wonder if the rest of the thread was serious.

Sure looks like it could tear up a valuable coin....how does one know for sure an item is a ring, pulltab and not a coin when covered with dirt?

Here's the other info I have gathered on this from previous posts:

"(A photo was posted on Jan. 23 by Rentasquid -see above). My good Tesoro friends, after many years I finally came up with a tool that gets rings, pulltabs, etc. out of the ground without digging a plug. Made from a Farberware 8" bread knife ($11.00 at Bed bath & Beyond).Just stick it straight down into the ground and pull toward you and up, it hooks onto damn near anything. Tried it at a local park the other morining, pulled up the junk in the photo, no rings. Everything came out real easy including the soda can half. Was able to use it just two times before the the cold weather set in. No plug to cut, so no dirt to put back, or just a small amount at times. It usually leaves just a slit or two in the grass. With good pinpointing the target can be snagged the first swipe. I wouldn't use it searching for old coins. The notches in the blade were cut one half inch wide by three eights inch deep and spaced one half inch apart, then grinded to make them pointy. A carbide hacksaw blade, Dremel tool, and a grinder was used. It's a lot faster than cutting a plug for each target. If you do make one you'll find twice as much junk in less than half the time, maybe even a ring."

That's all I know. I think Tinfoil might be the originator of the item. Rentasquid said it is not his item.

Jerry,

Remember that the Explorer has to go through a null before the screen updates. The tones will track multiple targets close together, but the screen will not be updated until the detector generates a null after each target.

After each target, the Explorer goes into a very short null that is not even noticed unless you listen very carefully.

Swing right to left one time the audio on each target will change to the correct sounds on the SE. The processor in the SE is a lot faster then the Exp ll. That is a fact. I am running wide open All Metal so there is no null. I hate the fricking nulling as I would rather hear it all especially when I hunt the trash. I have never ever run any Iron Mask (Discriminate) in the 5 years I have owned the Exp ll or the SE. I usually run fast on unless I am on the beach then I run fast off Deep on. Never run them both on or both off at the same time. If I put the coins in a vertical position then each coin will ID separately even when I swing over each target once. One sweep right to left on qt, one sweep left to right on the dime, one sweep right to left on the nickle like in a S. The ID will change on each sweep. If I put the QT, Dime, Nickle down swing once at a normal or even a real slow sweep speed the tones will change but not the ID. In other words the first target that the SE sees in the only target that will ID the other two will tone correctly but the ID will not change. I had a friend that his machine was doing the same thing. I just talked with him yesterday and he got another SE and now the new machine will ID when the tone changes when he preforms the same steps as I just explained. The processing in the ID part of the machine is not functioning properly. If you go over a target in all metal if that audio changes then the processor will also change the ID no matter how many time you swing only one way. In other words if the audio changes the ID changes. If it did not if I hit a piece of iron, QT, Dime in a sweep the iron is the only thing that will read. If you are just looking at the dig numbers or the cursor and not paying attention to the audio then you are going to think it is just a piece of iron. So that is my explanation of what is happening. I have always hunted the audio and the Id was always a sort of a nice thing to have but who cares. The audio never lies on the Explores, never. You might get a mix in the trash but if you go slow when this happens most of the time you can pull the stuff right out of the trash. Since the SE will now ID in the pinpoint mode this is a real help in sorting thru the trash and the iron. . OK there is some more info for you Glenn and I really appreciate your help. I have talked to M/L and they said that this is not the correct way the machine is supposed to work so it is going back Monday. :D: :D: Later Jerry aka Tinfoil.
