I'll keep my SE for at least 10 years :hot:

I posted this in another reply to a thread and I have read some threads in other forums about this matter.

When you compare what they have done in other technological fields verses metal detector enhancements there is a vast chasm. In a practical sense you could swing that SE for 10-15 years and still keep up with the latest that is coming out.

What really has changed in MD advancements in the past 20 years or so?

auto GB

discrimination

some filtering

some visual candy which we know as you get more proficient the audio is the major indicator in what you dig up

The prices do not do down on these machines. They keep getting higher and higher. If you have $$ to burn then go for it get the latest MD or you fall for the seductive advertising on glorifying something that you think you need but practically it really does not serve a major purpose. I am sure everyone here has an opinion on this and I'd be more than welcome to read them. Let's get the juices flowing ...

I agree 100%. I am still swinging a White's Spectrum with a Bigfoot coil for cleaning up clads and then hit the deep ones with the Minelab Explorer Pro.

I've had the Spectrum for 19 years and prior to the Minelab, it was the deepest I have ever used. I've tried all the new machines and still stayed with the Spectrum for the last 19 years. Just did not see any advantage to upgrade.

When the Explorer came out, I knew that it was a technological leap from the Spectrum and an advantage in the field.

Now that the Explorer is in my arsenal, I doubt I will have to get another machine for another 20 or 30 years unless they come out with some new technology that blows RF away.

A well discriminating pulse induction machine......

Doesn't White's new TDI model fit that billing?

If money is burning a hole in my pocket I might but it better be some real goodies for me to do so. For me to just be able to hook up my explorer to my computer and share programs with other people I'll think I'll pass on that one.

XS because that's all I can afford in the Explorer line right now.

I had an Explorer II once but didn't like it. I now think it was defective or I didn't understand it so I've decided to give Explorer another try.

I settled on the XS because others told me it's the same depth as the II and SE. They are basically the same except for some minor differences.

So, $500 sounded better to me than $1200.

I also owned the Minelab Excalibur and Sovereign GT. So I know about Minelabs strong points. Before the GT I would dig a nail about every 15 minutes. After the GT I dug about 3 nails in 4 months of hunting.
