While looking over my spreadsheet I noticed I had only 11 more one cent coins needed to reach the level where I turn them into US Silver coins. We all know what John calls that process, don't we? Off to my closest site and a quick 45 minute hunt. I had a few coins to go when a guy I know stopped to say hi. As we chatted I was, looking down, kicking the grass on the side of a basketball court and caught a glimpse of gold. Incidentally, my detector was off. I reached down and picked up a 10k gold ring. I dropped the ring and swung my 2500 over it so I could report to Gene. Hit dead on notch 4, nickel, and its marked 10k and "WINNER." Talk about dumb luck. This brings up the thought as to whether this ring is a detecting find. I choose to call it one even though I did not use a detector to find it. I'm no lazyaussie but two gold rings in three hunts might mean I'm back on track.

I'm done detecting for a while. My mind is ready for a long hunt but my feet, knees, back, and fingertips tell me to take a break.

Chris

well looks like you are back on track. would you had have found it if you hadn't stopped to talk? i think it counts as a detector find, you wouldn't have found it if you were not out detecting.

If that's dumb luck, then call me stoopid!
I'd a just kicked in 11 coins outta my pocket and called it good.

Very nice, very nice. You have certainly advanced, Chris. Spread sheets? "Closet sites?".... yep, you've come a long way.

If you found it, it's a find. You may not have found it with your detector but it's because of detecting that you found it.

Great ring

Everything counts as a detector find, when as you say, you are out detecting.

It's called eyeballing-by an old geezer that passed away some years ago-Karl Von Mueller. He was my favorite. Here's a tip-the scanning should be so second nature that while you're detecting you should be scanning with your eyes for gold chains, earrings, etc. anyway. So heck yeah-you were eyeballin' like an old pro. My thinking is that you're ALWAYS using 2 detectors, your favorite and your eyes.

Yeah old Karl was a trip. "Eyeballing" goes back to when I was a kid, about 137 years ago. I believe that was an old Hobo saying. You'd be surprised how many older guys were Hobos during the Great Depression. My step dad was one. Could he spin the tales.

was 8x20.1 grams,,people were just walking by it,kicking it around....I usually pick up 160 bucks,,who cares what it looks like, gold is gold

that's a great little ring Chris congrats :clapping: two gold rings in three hunts is good going in any ones book
i"v got a question for ya Chris do the rings lock on any size with the gti or do they jump around ??
i say if you"v got a detector in ya hand it"s a detector find .
lazyaussie

I eyeballed a thick mans gold bracelet once, several nice earrings and lots of good old cash. Just the other day I spied several old scrip tokens just lyin' on the ground.

In my experience gold jewelry gives a nice, steady, locked on signal. The only targets that jump around all the time seem to be rusty iron items including old rusty bottlecaps, and broken or bent pop tops. That's not to say a broken or bent ring wouldn't so the same thing. I dig most of those jumpy targets anyway assuming one day I'll get rewarded.

Chris

Easy on yourself bud... you do absolutely fantastic and between you and a few others on here hopefully make us all energized to do better at MD. I can't wait to see you, UW, JE, and others finds (seeing I am not getting out much as of late) so I get my "fix" from you guys finds.

Keep them coming

Don

I didn't mean I'd never figure out how to detect, I meant that Iooked and looked all summer for a gold ring only to stumble across one without a detector. I counted it as a find with an asterix.

Get out for a hunt, it will do you good!

Chris

Good job Chris. Checked most of my small gold rings and they hit at 3.5 on my CXIII
for the most part. And yes this is a detecting find even though your detector was off.
Kind of like mental detecting we will call it. You wouldn't have been out there if you didn't
have your detector with you would you ? So, it makes perfect sense to me. Well, maybe
not perfect. Glad you got another gold ! I am still puzzled about them hitting at 4 on your 2500.
Doesn't matter though as long as you know where they hit so you can get them. Got to make
an effort to get all those gold rings out of the ground, or on top of it, before everyone gets out
there and starts looking for them. You're really getting good now. You don't even have to turn
your detector on. Good hunting to you ! I like your style. Gene
