Hello,

I'm new to the world of MD. I've always wanted to do it but just now getting the means to. I've decided to get the ACE 250. I've read a lot of good things about it and a lot say its good for the beginner so that's right up my alley. When I went to purchase one I see they offer a couple of different packages 1> being just the ACE 250 by its self for $212. 2. the ACE 250 Treasure Hunter Special and it comes with an extra coil 4.5" Super Sniper Search coil for $276 And 3rd. an ACE 250 Deluxe Sports Package that come with an extra coil also a 9

I'd get the one with the sniper coil and I'd also get a Pro-Pointer. It depends on the type of hunting you're going to do, though. If you're going to hunt big fields go for the bigger coil, and add a Pro-Pointer. I'd choose a Pro-Pointer over a second coil.

Thanks for the help so far! I'm going to be hunting in some public places (schools, parks etc.) some. I live in the sticks and we have a lot of old houses and since I grouse hunt I've come across some old home places back in the woods and would like to try them as well when I get my MD. I'm also going to be working on try to gain permission to MD in an old civil war battle site. The only person I've ever known to hunt this site was a guy that came down from Indiana from a museum to hunt the area some back in the early 90's. He was only around a couple of days and that is the only person I know of that's ever hunted it. There is also an old log cabin still standing at the site that was there during that time as well. My family owns land that borders this property and I'm hoping that will get me in there and they also have lived there about 60+ years and have never seen anyone else hunt it. But I will check on the Pro-Pointer. I've came across a used ACE 250 for a good price so that will free up some $ to spend on the coils and pro-pointer. Thanks again for the help.

I agree with Chris about which package to get. That's great that you are interested in relic hunting, however most Civil War battle sites are off limits. A good alternative is to find the location of the campsites where the troops stayed as they moved from one area to another and prepared for battle. Many of these are on private land and permission to hunt can be granted by the landowner. Good luck. Happy Hunting:)

Thanks for the heads up on the battle field info. I know the hole battle field is private land. It wasn't a huge battle but it's there. there is a few houses on the land and I hope to get permission to hunt in there yards. I know the old cabin I mention was used for an ambush I've been told during that time. I'm looking forward to trying it out I may not do any good since I'm a rookie at it but no the less I'll try. When I was young in the early 90's I would see someone out MD every once in a while around a couple of ths school but I never see anyone anymore ever and I'm out a lot. I use to be a deputy sheriff for quite a few years in the county I live in and was out in the county a lot and never saw anyone out. Not for sure why? And some of the old home places i've come across in the woods while bird hunting is way off the beaten path and some are quite a walk to get to. Do you think these would be good places to try? thanks again for all the help!

If you're brand new to the hobby don't overload your butt. Start with the standard package and see if you even like the hobby, and will stick with it, and can master your machine. Tecting ain't as easy as it looks and sounds and you're not going to run out and find a big pile of coins right off the bat. You can add the other coils later as needed. First learn how to use your machine before you add a bunch more stuff. You'll find plenty of stuff with the standard package to keep you happy for awhile..

Sounds like you've got some great places to hunt. Learn your detector and it's hard telling what kind of goodies you will uncover. Good luck.

The small sniper coil is great in areas with bushes and such. You can search in areas that you can't get the larger coils into. I have all 3 coils and find the small coil the most useful.

honestly stay with the stock 250 , forget the extra coils, and go with the pro pointer ! learn the tones , how to pin point with the 250 and get in there for the final shot with the pro pointer ...once u find ur target without diggin a crater you be more confident.

Thanks again for all the info and help. I found a used Ace 250 used only a couple of times with the sniper coil, headphones and some other stuff with it for $220 so I went with it since it was just a couple of $$ more than a brand new ace 250 with out the extra coil. I'm also taking all the advice on the pro-pointer and working on getting one of those too. I know for sure its going to be touch and go for the first while but I'm ok with that. I also know it will be touch and go with finding things and I'm ok with that to. I love being out in the outdoors and I've always wanted to pick up this hobbie and now I'm able to. Its just like bird hunting if it was all about killing something to me I would have gave that up years ago cause I go home empty handed more than I get to bring one home. I just like the outdoors I've always been into history and this I believe will go hand in hand. Once again thanks for the info and help and please keep it coming I'll take all you can send my way.

God Bless

Absolutely!:thumbup:The older the better! And if it's off the beaten path, then it's less likely that others have searched there. Who knows? You may even be fortunate enough to find a cache of old coins or other interesting treasures. Even if you don't find anything good, it sure will be fun lookin' for it!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)
