In a Pickle Over Heinz Whatzit

This is a slightly-thicker-than-foil, half-dollar sized disc. I'd guess it was a bottle seal. Markings are: "H. J. Heinz Co." "Keystone Pickling & Preserving Works" "Patent May 1890"
The broken part probably read "Pittsburg[sic], U.S.A"
Can anyone tell me what anything about Keystone? History; How Old; What product this is from? What was the patent for? My searches have only produced the pickling crock with similar logo seen on linked page. My patent and trademark searches have been unsuccessful.
Thanks, Dan
