In Memory of Plaz Conner, 39 years Young

I attended the funeral of Plaz this past Saturday. Representing our little prospecting community were RAY Flannagan, Mohave John Green and his wife, Bedrock Betty, and myself. I got up and spoke and gave some insights into the prospecting life of Plaz Conner.

We should all be so lucky to have had as many friends as Plaz. I counted over 400 people in attendance! 400 !!!!!! I counted over 50 flower arrangements, before I quit trying to count them all. All sent by friends and relatives.

As part of my talk, I told the legend of "the rattler." The practice that some prospectors engage in of carrying a small container with them with a gold nugget in it. Before they start a day of prospecting, they hold the rattler up in the air and shake it, in the belief that the sound of the little nugget inside of the container rattling around will call all of the other nuggets to the surface so they can be found. I produced from my pocket a rattler. I told the large assembly of friends and family that this was a rattler, it was a hand carved wooden box with a gold nugget inside.

I held it up and rattled it in the air, and told the audience, I'm going to rattle this now, to help all of you recall all of your GOLDEN memories of Plaz. I'm going to place this with Plaz's body, as a symbol of our friendship, and a token of how much I miss him.

I'm happy to say that the family made sure that the "rattler", was buried with Plaz. And although Plaz is in heaven, he will know that a part of what has brought us all together as this one great big prospecting family was given to him as a symbol of our love for him and our connection and appreciation for him as a fellow prospector, and adventure seeker.

Here is a picture of Plaz and Julie and their families. Plaz is right in the middle and Julie is sitting down to his left as you view the picture.

Take care guys, love what you do, and show appreciation to your friends!

Plaz Conner, was a very good friend of mine and hunting partner, and a poster to this forum. I don't think Plaz had even reached his 40's yet, he was in his thirties.

I received this email from his wife Julie, the morning of May 15th. Please send your thoughts and your prayers. This is Plaz and Julie

you spoke quite eloquently when you said "I'm going to rattle this now, to help all of you recall all of your GOLDEN memories of Plaz." - that was quite inspired...:)

it is a shame - more people are dying much younger today, and very suddenly. this makes it all the more difficult for the wife, kids, family and friends. hope he's panning for gold in the big Klondike in the sky...
