In that early morning hour before dawn when a surf pirate drags himself down to the kitchen to make a mug of coffee (perhaps with a shot of rum - just for the vitamins) I was snuggled in bed thinking about anything but Surf Church at Horseshoe Bay.
My old dog, Breanna (gaellic for 'a great disturbance) had other plans and came to my side of the bed so she could nudge me out of sleep and then let her out for her morning constitutional. Breanna used to sleep in on the weekend but now that she is an older puppy of 12 years (which is pretty ancient for a Bouvier de Flandres) she gets up at all hours and demands to be let out. What are you going to do? She's a great dog even if she is a bit deaf and a bit blind.

Anyway, as I stood in the doorway waiting for Breanna to do her thing and rubbing the sleep from my eyes I noticed that the drone of the gales which have pounded Bermuda this week had stopped, it was quiet. I let Breanna back in, gave her some breakfast and went into the back yard to check out the ocean conditions - they were calm.
The sun was coming up and the moon hadn't gone to bed yet but there was still time to catch the low tide, Thank You Breanna.

By the time I got to Horseshoe Bay it was full low tide so I drove deep and my 2nd target was a nice 14k Men's Gold Band with a center diamond about 1/3 carat and 8 more 1/8th carat diamonds on the sides. Not a lot of targets as the sand has moved in hard this past week but I did manage a few faint signals and soon I added a .925 fine silver chain to my loot pouch, it was heavily encrusted and very deep, I was glad I had the Dually with me today and had left the CZ-21 in the jeep - these targets were really deep. Next came a huge nitro earring, has to be at least 3 carats of CZ junk in a HGE setting, people and their vanity make me laugh. My last good hit was really faint and tough to capture, I wound up digging a crater so wide and so deep that at one point I was sure I heard some folks speaking Manadarin.
Finally, it came up in the scoop and it is a 10k Ladies band with 4 small emeralds and 3 diamond chips, not great quality but a bit of a coincidence. This week the Princess and I were watching the Cash for Treasure show and they were hunting for emeralds and I remarked to my lovely wife "I'll have to get you some of those".
Well here they are.

After 2 hours I was chilled to the bone so I headed for home and a nice soak in the hot tub. Then I whipped up a light breakfast which we ate on the patio because it is such a beautiful day today.
