Today after work I decided to hit Lake Huron again. Since its only a mile away. I don't find a lot out there but enough to keep it interesting. The waves were 2 - 3 foot high and they loved to toss me around today.

My most interesting find by far is the US flat button in good shape but the loop is broken off the back. Silver ring says sterling and a 1960 Canadian silver dime. Not a lot of good targets as I said but the button has to do with Fort Gratiot I am sure.

On another note, I came to the surface only to find myself surrounded by 3 Coast Guard boats, one sheriff boat and a Coast Guard helicopter flying overhead. About 100 yards north of me at the beech an 8 yr old boy was missing and presumed in the water. I was asked if I was the only diver, I guess they had a sonar going or something. I told them yes. If I find the outcome will let you know. A 6 year old girl drowned last Sunday in a pond I play in also near here.
 
Ouch, finding that boy in time would sure beat the heck out of any stash of coins and would be a greatest "metal detecting" story to tell! Hopefully, he just got lost in the bushes on the shore.

Water is deadly. My friend Tom drowned while detecting Lake Huron a few years back and I know of two others that drowned in lakes detecting. DROP your stupid detector and scoop if you get in trouble. They are NOT worth a life.

If you don't have an inflateable PFD, you should GET ONE. I wear ALL the safety devices while I dive and a LOT of the time I can stand up and put my head above water. NO SHAME IN BEING SAFE. ALL the coast guard and sheriff people wear PFD's. Your TRAINED to know how dangerous water is as a diver.
 
I hope they found the little boy safe and well, it must have rattled you up a bit coming up to that lot. Hope everything works out ok SD....
 
Congrats on your finds, but very sad to hear about the young boy, safety is the key in the water my brother is the water patrol in my area and his has worked a lot of drownings which many of the could have been avoided! Stay safe out there!!!!

parents really need to watch there kids and even then you loose track of them! people in general do not respect how dangerous the waves, currents and water is.
