Trying to learn how to re size and upload pictures , if successful these shells are all from 45/50 and 45/70 sharps carbine and rifle respectfully.
They were all dug in an old baseball field just south of the old fort garland, co
This fort was under the command of col. kit Carson at one time.
Of note in regards to these shell casings is the fact that they were manufactured between 1876 and 1879 which coincides with the time frame that the "buffalo soldiers" black Calvary unit was stationed at the fort to put the Ute Indian uprising after the meeker massacre.
By some accounts the secretary of war at the time issued a command to smash all shell casings to prevent hostiles from reloading them. Don' know if that is true or not.
