Infinium Vs Beach Hunter ID

Hi Guys,

Once again I come to the experienced ones to seek advise, I stared metal detecting 10 years ago, I had a Fisher 1265 x (still do) and last year I upgraded to the GTI 2500, great for coin shooting in parks and fields, but now I want to try my luck at the beach, last time I went beach hunting was like 8 years ago with my old fisher, and I had very nice finds. But now, unfortunately tourists have rushed like hoards and left the beaches such a mess, literally its a carpet of iron bottle caps and pull tabs. I went last week to try my luck with the GTI and I just could not find a single coin under the trash, the detector just goes crazy (I used the 9 in coil need to get the 4.5 one). And also tried the chinese viper (I got it for just 60 bucks at kellyco If not i would not have buy it) and of course its a piece of junk. Any way, long story short, What would be the best option for this kind of beach, (I'm not a diver but I would like to go shoulder deep hunting also) the Infinium or the Beach Hunter ID? or none of the above? lol.

Thanks in advance!

tourists have rushed to your beach?? good for you!

Go with the Excal. !! I swing it. And may be one or two others do likewise.

And if you had to sell it there is a very strong market for them.

I agree with you, I think Kellyco should ban the chinese detectors, when I was told about the BOGO sale I looked at the "free" ones and the "best" option according to the customer reviews was the Viper. (marketing really works on me, now I decided to :ban: the viper).

Thanks for the advise on the Excal, to be honest It was my first option, but I have read so many posts on the Excal, vs. Infinium, vs Whites that now I'm confused, but that's why I appreciate your advice think I'll include it again on the list:biggrin:

I own both detectors , the Excal 1000 go's deep real deep ,but the Infinium LS go's much deeper. The Chinese say my holes are making sinkholes there. LOL The excal has disc. the infinium is a PI detector . I use both all the time , but if you looking for depth get the Infinium.the infinium cost a little more money, but worth it.

Here is what one seller thinks about the Viper Trident ... funny!

Get the Excalibur II ... it will pay for its self in no time.
A PI type detector is fine IF you know why you need one.
If you don't know ... you don't need one.

There is gold on that beach ... you just need to work for it.
Start by setting your discriminator just under a nickle and dig everything that beeps.
With a good beach scoop it aint that hard and I garentee that if it is as trashy as you say then others dont hunt it either
and that means it is all for you if you are willing to work for it.

The Infinium and Beach Hunter ID demand 2 different types of hunting techniques:

Using the Beach Hunter ID allows you to NOT dig certain targets because it has a accumulative type of discrimination. So, you can pick and choose to what degree you may want to dig good probable targets.

The Infinium has limited discrimination, so you tend to dig more targets.

Some water hunters dig all targets, and manage to get those tiny rings and other "surprises" that a lot of other hunters miss. So, they end up digging more junk too.

Some hunters like to cherry pick and only dig the "better" sounding targets, digging less targets in a day.

So, it depends on your style of hunting. I know a good ground-balanced Infinium will easily find a gold ring at 12 inches using the 8 inch mono coil. I also know that the Infinium can hunt areas where the mineralization and/or high salt content with ease, whereas the other types finds those areas challenging. It also depends where you are doing most of your hunting hunting also.

You are getting some good information from all the replies. Good luck with whatever machine you get.

Thanks a lot everybody for the advice, I think I have a winner, I'll get the Excal, as soon as I have some good finds I'll post them.

Thanks again and happy hunting everyone!

well ill go out on a limb here i use the bhid its dam hot on gold & ignores iron :super: i love it

the Excalibur also is a good unit
good hunting

I have been told that on the west coast the salt water and mineralization is a bit much for them.
IMHO the White's BeachHunter ID does not have the depth of the Excalibur but for hunting the beaches and saltwater around Corpus Christi, Texas, I do like it.
Like it enough to sell the one I had and buy a newer one with the neutral buoyant coil.
On the beaches I hunt, it has no problem detecting rings and coins down 8 to 10 inches in the sand, wet or dry.

If it is the deeper and older targets you are seeking (12" or more) then the PI is likely a better choice.
You are giving up discrimination to get the extra depth but I am told that you can learn the different sounds Iron and gold will make with them.
There are some beach areas here that my Excalibur and BHID seldom gets a target ... I am thinking of getting a PI and giving it a try on these sections of what should be productive swimming areas.
Might be that the good stuff is just too deep for my Excalibur or BeachHunter to reach.

Detectors are tools and while some detectors are like the versatile Crescent wrench they still have shortcomings.
You need to match the best tool to the task you are wanting to do to get the best results and that is why so many in this hobby have several different detectors.
