Info needed on a marking on a necklace...

this is a heavy necklace:

The markings are: 1/20 12KGF

This thing worth anything? I mean if I were to send it to ge melted down is it worth anything? Or is its value in being a necklace that is heavy and shiny say on eBay or CraigsList.

Never ran across these markings before so no idea what 1/20 means but thinking the 12 KGF is gold filled???

Nope didn't find it with a detector. It was mixed in with a lot of my step Mother's old jewelry. I have no need for her stuff. Guessing she was Catholic at one time as I have a couple Rosaries, a cross(es) with Jesus still on the cross.

I would rather give them the Rosaries and those crosses to someone who would find spiritual use from them (guessing someone Catholic). PM me if your are interested about the Rosaries and cross(es).

Going to sell the golden necklace if it is worth anything.

Thanks for your expert advice.

I believe the 1/20 refers to the plating thickness. Dont know that for sure tho. But I do know that the refineries wont accept anything gold filled/plated/etc. Steve in so az

Plated. Wish it was solid! :)

Your necklace is 1/20th of 12kt gold filled! Not a lot of gold! I've found some with gold filled or plating over silver! Even a lot of your silverware is only Silver Plated but has some silver over a base metal of some kind!

If you can get some money for it.....then sell it....but if your wife or Casey would like to wear it, as they do stay rather shiny! Wearing it by someone would be better than selling it, as you probably would not get much for the gold content!

God Bless!
