Interesting coin spill

Hitting a different area of a park we've been to a couple of times, my daughter hit this spread out pile of sawdust and her bounty hunter lit up like the 4th of July.
I thought it was going wacky again as it has been lately, and went over it with the 250.

Pennies.. hundreds of them! all packed in the sawdust.

We sat there plucking them out while just sweeping the pinpointer over it pondering what in the world the story was with this penny laden sawdust pile.
We finally gave up and headed to another area for a bit.

Out of the mess, we did find a 1950D wheatie.

Interesting area of coins How many pennies did you find in the sawdust?

I think by the time we gave up, there were about 180 or so between the two of us. There's still a lot more there.

With the amount of clad in that park and vintage, you can tell it has never been hunted. Ironically, this is the park that was once a sawmill about 100 years ago.

I think the mystery is solved.

A friend was telling me about an activity called a "Sawdust hunt" where toys and coins are mixed into a pile of sawdust and the kids dig through it with a frenzy to pick out what they can.

Tha's it. They have been doing them for years.

Thats wierd, but great spot to get your coin totals up, not to mention the pennies add up...
