Interesting experience this month with my F-75 LTD

I have a few spots here in Goldsboro that I have been pounding lately. There was quite a bit of trash, so I set disc to anywhere from 50 to max, because time was precious and short. I found a few coins and brass and low and behold, a CS buckle shows up (Presently, a Treasurenet Banner find). Well, I have not found a CW button in ages. I kind of got accustomed to having my disc at 15 and relying on my numbers too much, usually only digging stuff in the upper 50's and above. Well, I went to a buddy's home and he showed me just a ton of CW artifacts that he found over the years. We talked about discrimination a lot. I decided that I am just plain going to have to dig more to find the really good stuff ( although the CS buckle came in at 83). I went back to the area that I have pounded the past month, disc at 0 and sens at 75 (normally, I would keep it at about 50 because of EMI). It was as though I was detecting virgin ground. I keep the mode in 2F most all the time. I found that the iron just makes grunts. Good signals that give pretty much decent signals from both directions, I dig. Since doing this, I have dug a lot of junk, yet, I have found 2 eagle buttons, a Dragoon eagle and Connecticut State Seal in the same ground I had been hunting. Numerous other interesting items that I had just passed over with high disc were found, and many of them good. So, lesson learned. I must dig much more, as high sensitivity as EMI will allow, 2F, disc 0. One thing that takes getting used to is the scattery signals that you just have to ignore. I used a White's Spectrum for close to 20 years before the F-75 LTD, so that has taken some getting used to. I think I am now fully adjusted. The F-75 has blown me away with it's sensitivity to small items. One person told me to try All Metal and I would be amazed at what I will find. I may try that. I have much area to search in the vicinity of where I found the CS buckle, and it is quite apparent that this area was a Union camp, as practically all of Goldsboro was after the Battle of Bentonville, with like 110,000 encamped all around the city. Anyway, just wanted to share this info. Thanks, BP

Some really nice finds and a big WOW on that C S buckle. It is a beaut. Nice tale on your settings. I am just the opposite of you at times. I don't use any or enough disc at times. It is a never ending learning journey, but, dang nab it, its a fun one! HH jim tn

Very nice buckle!

Thanks for the write up. I got my original camo F75-LTD and then got the update; it has done well for me. And yes the beast is sensitive to very very small pieces of metal.

I keep reading about successes using 2F. I've tried it but have not taken to it. I think I will need to spend more time in 2F and see where some 2F familiarization takes me.
Cheers,

I went back out yesterday to the same area. I tried some out of the way areas that I had touched on before. Boy, the trash was THICK. It got pretty frustrating at 0 disc. I had to learn to focus on the deeper signals and try to ignore the shallow stuff. But man this detector is so sensitive that something 3 or 4 inches down can sound like it is on the surface. But really, from around the 4" range and deeper sound a bit different. Most of the good items are 5-6" down. It stuns me how much metal is everywhere in the area I am hunting. I mean everywhere. But, it just takes patience and discerning the sounds, trying to listen for the deeper signals. It is sometimes tempting to turn the disc up, but I have to remind myself of all the good stuff I would pass up. Dug a lot yesterday, but I did find one old ring, child's ring. Still pretty cool. The gold ones will show up soon enough, but it will take a lot of junk digging first. Oh, and an interesting fact is that I have not found one silver coin in all my digging at 0 disc. Hmm. Baffles me. Yet, I really have not found any old coins, besides a couple wheat pennies. I have found plenty of clad and pennies during my searches though. I just wonder where the silver is.
