Well, at least it was it me. LOL Dug a few pieces of clad, memorial cents and 2 modern bullets this morning and was about to call it quits when I hit this item. Almost tossed it with my trash thinking it was a name tag holder of sorts. As it turned out once cleaned, it has Wizard with a patent date of Feb 05 1889 on it. A quick google revealed the item is a "vintage 1889 Wizard cuff holders gambling cheater." It was used for holding cuffs and collars on shirts. When cuffs and collars got dirty, they were exchanged for clean ones and held in place with this device. Some cheating gamblers also used them for holding a card in place up their sleeve. The device is nickel plated and back then sold for 8 cents, or 85 cents a dozen. It ended up being kind of a neat recovery, I thought. HH jim tn
