Interesting link for a precious metal calculator...

to pay bills - or buy that X-12

I will get one! :)

The X-12 is really better suited for very clean ground or the beach, where there's not a lot of targets and you want to go deep. I have used it in trashy areas (and found some silver with it) but it's not easy. However, when I hunted the park where I found the colonial stuff (with the stock at first), I went back with the 12" for the cover and the depth because the was NO trash at all. Different tools for different types of hunting. The Platypus is real good when you need to cover ground and want some target separation without losing depth. I know it goes as deep as the stock 10.5 does.

I've been experimenting lately in areas I've hunted numerous times using 8", 10", Platypus and X-12. When I do find what I think is a good deep target, I play with the settings to see what works and doesn't work. Next time out, I'll mark the area with a little flag and try a different coil.
