Hi I was thinking of getting a cheap 100 w inverter to use via my 12 volt vehicle battery to charge my 12 volt nicad pack for my old soverign...it needs 14.3 v at 60 ma to charge so i was wanting to do it with the supplied plug pak and a 240 v inverter..
anyone tried this?

I'm assuming by your address you are from Australia, so here is a link to an Inverter supplier down under. They may be able to point you towards what you are looking for. You should be able to find them at any major automobile or autosound parts store and yes, they work fine. I have used them to charge batteries, run laptops, tv's, videogames all with no ill effects.
