Iron Brigader's, Please Pardon My Ignorance

C. Nyal de Kaye

New member
Being from Australia, and not being totally familiar with all things American, I can't help but wonder about the use of the term "Iron Brigade."

I have read quite a bit about the Civil War, and have heard of several different "Iron Brigades", but what is the connotation of its use today?

So Pete and Mike, or anyone else, can you please explain it to we foreigners please?

[size=x-large]If you go to wickepedia, the IRON BRIGADES Civil War history is there. Our association with the name began over ten years ago. We were a group of detectorists from the midwest thrown together by chance meetings from the Internet to dig together.

Some of us met to dig old farm field sites and were surprised that we were digging US Civil War relics in fields that were not where the war was fought. We later concluded that these relics were from returning vets.

Some of us were Hoosiers (Indiana residents) Michiganders (Michigan) & from Wisconsin. We at the the time, being inexperienced, were digging lots of old farm field iron. I thought about that & being a US Civil War student remembered my history. Since my friends were from the same states as those from the IRON BRIGADE regiments, thought why not form a club called the IRON BRIGADE.

Since then, we have grown exponentially. You don't have to be from IN, MI, or SW to be one of us. All you have to do is be a good person & hunt with us and be invited.
