Iron Mask?

Might have a chance this week to get out and swing my new SE Pro. I was just wondering about this iron mask, do most people thats coin hunting run with it on or off? Is it just another way to discriminate or is it totally different? Thanks in advance.

its the same just another screen where you can easy change discrimination or make non. I use my explorer in any screen without discrimination, but if I need I go to all metal screen because its faster and more logical if you compare with paterns like -coin and etc. dont use them no point. lest discrimination in explorer better its works. good luck STasys

Its both personal and area specific. Yes its a form of disc. I use about 26 IM in most parks, it keeps the mineral noise down and for me is right at that point where i can tell iron from good targets. I like the way targets move on the screen at that IM best. Some people use more... some less. I have a suggestion for you or anyone using disc... take a look at Thomas Dankowski Detectors web site. He did an excellent piece on masking. Once you understand it you realize disc does nothing but keeps you from hears everything the detect sees and the reduction of depth based on coil shut down is still happening. I use disc when needed based on where im hunting and the type of hunting im doing. Its comes down to a hearing thing. i just dont like hearing all the junk unless im in a field, beach, or cleaner area. Some people are more successful in AM and even use Ferr to help disc. If you read the article you will realize a detector is doing what it was designed to do... find all metal. How it manipulates this information is based on the manufacturers options or factory settings. But all that EMI, mineral noise, or targets are still there and still affect whats being seen.

read the forum and he did a good job investigating the masking and the effect it has on targets, thanks for the information and everyone needs to read that forum:thumbup:
