Ironing my coins

New member
Made it back to the house where I dug the token last weekend and made it thru most of the front yard. Not a real trashy yard, but there was a few places where someone had hit a can with a lawnmower, and that wasn't much fun, but still popped a few keepers. The iron was a few feet from the front porch and I'm hoping it will clean up. The Mercury dime is a 1924, the buffalo dateless, a 1955 Wheat, and can't make out the other wheat. One of the buttons says NIAGRA and the other say JAYANELL. If anyone has any insight on how old the iron is, I would appreciate hearing from you. Hope life is good, Eric

The iron probably goes back to the twenties and early thirties, or before. My mom, grandmothers, aunts, all used flat irons when I was a kid before elecric irons existed or most people had electricity. The follow-up to the flat iron was the gas iron that worked like a Coleman lantern. Had a tank on it to hold fuel and you lit a burner inside the iron. I also remember the old Maytag gasoline powered washing machines. We used to pull the engines off of the old machines and make homemade go-karts. I've had a full life and seen it all. :yo:

Hi a pic of the one I found, sold and cleaned up in a tumbler with just gravel and water. Yours looks a little worse than mine was.
