IS A MINELAB REALLY BETTER?

JONATHAN

New member
I HAVE DONE WELL WITH MY GTI 1500 BUT HAVE SOME ISSUES WITH IT.ARE THE EXPLORERS REALLY THAT MUCH BETTER TO JUSTIFY CONVERTING TO MINELAB?I HAVE A COUPLE FRIENDS WITH EXPLORERS BUT I ONLY SEE A SMALL DIFFERENCE IN FINDS WHEN HUNTING TGTHER AND THIS COULD BE RELATED TO LUCK.ANYONE GO FROM A GARRETT TO A MINELAB ?
THANKS JON

Minelabs give you the info and let you decide to dig or not while the Garrett's and other detectors just decide for you with a beep. This is OK for some too, but those targets close together will average the signals together while the Sovereigns and the Explorers will hear each target separate inmost cases.
I did a challenge with my Minelab Sovereign to find one old coin in a area this guy with his GTI 1500 had worked to death in a old park, if I could show him one coin he missed with the GTI he would believe the Minelab Sovereign was better. I got over 50 old coins plus 17 new one he missed, he now swings a Explorer and finding many of the site he thought were worked out come alive again. He gave the 1500 to his son and he since traded it in for a Explorer too so he can keep up with his dad.
Like any detector you have to get to know it to do good with it and be able to spend the time to learn it, if not you may not do as well. Just look at all the nice finds found by those using the Explorer verses the other detectors posted on the forums, that should tell you something.

Hi, I started with Garrett's flagship 2500 .... hunted for several months and never found a silver coin. Dug tons of clad, but I never got deeper than 4" - 6". Some guy on the Garrett forum told me about the Explorer and that he'd used a Garrett once too. Bought the Explorer and never looked back. The 2500 has not been used since by me and won't be. If you want to do a non-biased compare just look at the finds on the Explorer page compared to the Garrett page (or any other manufacturer).

Of course if you're in my area (northern NJ) I prefer that you DON'T get an Explorer! :heh:

Hi Jonathan;
The explorer really is that much better.
That is for deeper targets and using sounds to tell between targets that are close together.
If you are only hunting mostly newer stuff - anything within 4-5 inches deep - keep your 1500.
Want deeper, older stuff, switch and plan on 1 year learning curve (possibly shorter, depending on how much you get out with it).
I think the question is, has anyone switched from an explorer to a garrett?
Take Care,
MM

Hi, I just got a Minelab Explorer xs w/ sunray probe. While I haven't found anything w/ it yet(just junk), I just got on ebay and ordered me a new digging tool....................My old machine, a White's 6000 di pro sl, is a great machine, but in 1 1/2 hrs the other day I consisently dug deep targets and have come to the realization that this machine is going to find the deep, older targets once I eventually learn what the hell I'm doing!!! I'm definitly excited about the prospects, no pun intended!!!

I presently own the original XS and also the II and have no intentions of getting the SE. I can tell you personally my finds since converting from top of the line brand X have gotten much, much better and most of our friends after seeing what we find are or have converted. If your comfortable with your Garrett and don't mind others getting older stuff stay with it but if you want stuff from hunted out places try the Minelab. You won't regret it.
