Is it true. A dealer told me Minelab was not..repeat "NOT" going to repair Minelab Explorer XS detectors ??

Has anyone else heard this ???? My next question is..Who repairs them in the private sector. ??????

If this is true your kinda out of luck if something goes out................

I'd like to know which dealer told you that information and if there is any truth to it. Could be that dealer just wants to sell more up to date Minlab detectors, but again is there any truth to what he told you. I'm sure that all of us Explorer and XS owners would like to know one way or the other. With all the newer Minelab detectors being made I'm sure the parts for the older models will one day dry up and if Minelab doesn't have the parts then for sure they can't do anymore repairs on them. Guess I'm lucky to have gotten my XS reapaired a month and a half ago if what you are telling us is on the up and up.

that the XS was indeed going to the "NO" repair chopping block soon... and that each minelab detector...once it reaches 10 years old...will no longer be repaired....or they will no longer make the parts TO repair...or something along those lines.

I don't know if it's true...but I did hear it somewhere...and also read it somewhere. Could have been a previous post on this forum where someone brought it up as well.

Think Bryce is right on that 10 year thing Elton.----Somebody awhile back posted a list of Minelab detectors on the "chopping block" that Minelab had listed that they would no longer (could no longer) service.---Might have been Andy that posted Minelabs list-you could ask him about it.---As I remember, the Explorer XS wasn't on that list (YET & at THAT time).---But if the "breaking point" is indeed 10 years (and I believe it is)---the XS must be getting MIGHTY CLOSE!------As for a private sector repair--I dunno.---How is a private sector repair going to work on older Minelabs (or get parts) when Minelab themself can't/won't get them???------Food for thought in the decision to purchase (or not purchase) an older Minelab.---Personally, I think that 10 year thing "sucks" but what is--is!-----I'm sure (hope) Minelab has their reasons for it! :( --------Del

But it needed repairs. I called several dealers to find out where to send the machine if I bought it.. Some said right now no where. as minelab was in the middle of repair facility move. Told me to call Vegas and ask where to send it. One and I did not remember who , told me .."Don't buy it" it would not be repaired by Minelab... He stated Minelab did not repair machines over 10 years old unless they had a few parts in stock.. He said no new parts were going to be made for the XS units... So be careful what I bought... He did not try and sell me anything.. He was being a nice guy and passed on what he knew, or thought to be the truth..Sorry I did not write his name and number down... But truth is I didn't buy the machine.. If fixing is an issue then I felt I would be sorry with the purchase of a machine that is broke. And maybe could not be repaired.. Hence I asked if anyone else heard this about the EXP XS...on the forum.

I was not doubting his word..just curious if it was a known entity in the MInelab world and I was the last to know............. I was curious if anyone other than Minelab fixed small issue repairs. so I asked that question too. The one I was looking at had screen pixal issues.. I think that is serious...Parts of the screen did not show up when turned on..

Can't blame you Elton for not buying that broken XS with the buzz going around that Minelab won't repair them anymore and especially if any Minelab detectors are ten years old or older. Makes you wonder what the other manufactures policies are and if they have a ten year time limit on reapirs. My guess is that they don't have one which makes Minelab in a class of it's own which sucks if you ask me. I sent a email off to Minelab in Las Vegas yesterday to see if Ena could answer some questions for me. Sent a message to Trina over a month ago and still haven't heard back from her. For all I know she might not work there anymore or they have unplugged their computers. What could be even more scary is they may have locked their doors down there and moved out of Dodge. HH.

I had an Etrac and was dumb..Traded it off................went for a F75 LTD..found out in my area EMI is tough on the LTD.. Many,.many places the LTD will not function. Actually it functions, but sens has to be cut back so much to stabilize it..depth is a minimum.. My T2 6.5 version seems better in tests. But thought I would swing back to a Minelab..They pretty much work everywhere... Thanks my friend, "have a good day". And happy hunting.

Called Minelab today and talked to a customer service lady named Mary. Told her I've had trouble for some time with my XS 1/8 phone jack being loose and not making a good connection. She said send it back with a note inside and the tech will call me and fix it. They are in Illinois now, Mary was very helpful and answered all my questions.

Thats cool...............Maybe you can ask about screen repairs etc if you talk with them again..Thank you !!

If you do send it in for the repair, you should ask them to install the EX II 1/4" jack......all that has to be done is a small amount of plastic removed on the inside of the unit and it drops right in. I modded mine myself and it is great not to have to use a adapter for my UR-30's.

Here is the memo that they provided to dealers regarding servicing older models and this list will be a moving list as models age . . . .
