Is That "Imaging Feature" On The Garrett GTI /GTP Series Kind Of Addicting? :poke:

I have been using the Garrett GTI Series for many many years and have found countless coins with them also. Every time I use a different detector, any brand for that matter, I really miss the ability to size an object. There always seems to be this feeling that something is missing. The imaging will let you know that certain targets are 99% sure of being a coin, in the top 6-7 inches. Other machines can't do this.....Any one else get "something is missing" feeling when switching to another machine?

Wouldn't the GTI be a scary machine if it imaged accurately down to 12 ".......

I DO get the "something missing" feeling, John. My favorite machines are non-Garrett and I have to have one around to use when I get the itch.
But I like the Garrett's for all the right reasons - they just seem to not like me. Next one I try will be the 1500.

Yeah I get that feeling when using other machines. I also miss the Belltone as I've come to like the sound of it and a standard "beep" is rather unsatisfying and boring. I know David has a Tesoro fetish and I owned Tesoros for many years and belonged to Tesoros " Writers Club", and I still own a Tesoro. They are fine machines but they ain't a Garrett but I'd like to pick up one of my old favorites - an early Golden or Bandido II.

Yeh John, I love the Imaging. It has so much info it is hard to do without. After I read one of your post about stomping on a target to break the halo or matrix of the target, I do it regularly, and the Imaging also seems to reset with target id reseting to more accurate reading of the metal after stomping. I told that to a detectorist the other day that uses a Whites. He was interested in that technique. I said it should also work with your Whites.

Maybe for the Winter blues John you can repost that post or ellaborate on stomping for the new forum members. I would like to here a more detailed account of it.

Also, I regularly Imaged many pulltabs with the 12.5 coil at 10 inches size B in a lake bed in Georgia where the Grd bal on GTI 2500 was around 6-7. I was impressed with that. Close to your 12 inches size B wish.

Now we need the Infinium with Imaging, ha.

Getting it on Friday (infinium)

I had the 1350 but did not use the imaging. In fact I never tried and took it with me to the Philippines and left it there. I will try it the next time I have it in my hands. Too bad John, that imaging does not work with the smaller coils. That would be something....

I quite like the imaging feature. It struggles with our $1 coin though. I'm playing around with the DD coil at the moment with some interesting results. It seems to be more animated (you can tell targets buy signal width fairly well) than the imaging coil, so I'll take it to Sydney next week and give it a good work out and see which coil is better at telling targets apart.

Mick,

I am very curious about the results that the DD coil give you. I like the DD coils for farmland.

To me it was a great feature, great help. Though I can use the pinpoint function to make an estimated size on a specific target; if there isn't to much trash around.

BUT my hunting pal couldn't live without it, and he likes the tones as well. (When you ask him my Explorer sounds like some Nintendo games he says):crylol:

hi Eric.
I'll post on how well it performs in the new year. (when I get back from Sydney.) I'm not going to say for sure that it's a better coil just yet; but the early experiments are looking good. It has much better target separation is much better. From some experiments that I've carried out at home I've found that on similar sized coins, the imaging coil need 10.5cm to ID them separately. With the DD coil, the distance is only 3cm.

Thanks Bill.
I'll be changing my hunting pattern this trip. I normally set a target and do a fair amount of bark chipping (can't do that much around home.) This time I'll be hitting a few parks on the harbour foreshore. They are jammed packed for the new years fireworks display each year. Got a few other parks lined up that see a lot of action as well.
