Is the 8500 a dud?

Why are there so few posts on the Omega 8500? I like the machine, but it appears it has not sold very well overall. Ideas?

The one I had was by a good inch + the deepest of the previous Omega's, versions 4 and 5, of the three. And, emi was never an issue, although nor was it with my version 5. The two things I disliked about the 8500 was the tones and falsing. The tones sounded (clipped) for lack of another word and it just seemed like it would give one false high tone on a trash item. As a coin shooter, I really liked the Omega platform and there are times I wish I still had one in my arsenal. Anyway, my take on the 8500. HH jim tn

Thanks for the explanations of the tones on the Omega 8500 jim. I was initially interested by the 8500 for the boost in depth and extra features vs my F5. I think I understand what you mean about clipped audio and false high tones. My F44 was like that. Drove me spare. The Omega 8000 V6 that I had had a normal tone scheme much like my F5.

What baffles me about the 8500 is the lack of dealers that are carrying it. Around here most dealers still have the 8000 for sale and no 8500 and they sell them at ridiculously high prices. One can get a T2 classic, an F70 or an AT Pro for the same price or less.

I know what you mean about the dealers not stocking the 8500. I ordered mine from my favorite dealer and he had to have it drop ship[ed directly from F T. Dist. didn't even have them in stock. It really was a deep Omega, though. Hmmmmmmm! LOL HH jim tn

I had the same issues with my 8500, clipped target response and false signals constantly. I was spending all my time double checking every false signal because you couldn't tell them from an actual target without checking every one of them. I'd probably retrieve one target for every 30 I'd check. Sold it shortly after I bought it. I do have an 8000 version 5 still.

For as long as they last, Teknetics is closing out the 8000's for $375 with the standard coil. They are selling them direct to the public - Just call Tek at 915.633.8354 ext. 171 and ask for Rubi.

PM me if you want more info and mention me if you order one.

I just hope those audio setups will not become a trend at First Texas. I know exactly what you mean by double checking the signals. Lots of wasted time. Perhaps a future firmware upgrade of the 8500 will fix it.
