Is the depth reading accurate with after market coils?

Not on the 5" coil, I am not sure about the ones that are near to or larger than the stock coil. On the 5" coil, the depth will appear deeper than what the item really is, at least on my excellerator coil.

The machine is calibrated for a ten inch coil, so when you use a different size coil the depth meter will no longer be accurate. Example: a 5 inch coil will show targets on the depth gauge at a depth deeper than they really are and a 15 inch coil will show targets as shallower than they really are. It's not a big deal difference as long as you know it exists.

A small piece of foil near the surface will read 4 inches deep. A soda can 8 inches deep might say 4 inches. The depth meter is also callibrated for a coin size object so smaller than coin objects will read deeper than they really are and larger than coin objects will read shallower than they really are.
