[attachment 144088 HPIM0103.JPG][attachment 144087 HPIM0102.JPG]I've been reading all the Ace posts, and especially the latest on gold rings, and been trying to find gold ALL year. Well, today my wife wants to go shopping and I only have about an hour and a half of sunlight so I try to take an oldie out of the closet and just have a little fun.As you can see, it looks like someone ran over it with a truck-the case has chunks knocked out of it and the coil has a piece of plastic glued on the coil where the ear was knocked off changing coils. I was surprised it powered up and was still working.(I know, they're built like a tank.) Well, I started hitting the usual coins and then this long sound (not the belltone) rang out and I couldn't believe my eyes.14K HEAVY gold chain, and 14K crucifix. This is the machine I won a speed hunt with almost 20 years ago. I was in the third hunt field while everyone else was STILL in the first hunt field. Sentimental reasons kept me from getting rid of it. Maybe this is just my LUCKY detector.

i think the old saying "gold is were ya find it" is a good answer to this question & i think it's more to do with if ya swing ya coil over it & recognise the signal rather than the detector used other things can help in the equation but that's the guts of it.

Yep, that must be your lucky detector Slingshot.
A lot of times the oldies are as good as the
latest and greatest. Nice looking chain and
pendant ! Bet you're glad you took that one
out of the closet. Must have been well rested.
Good hunting to you ! Gene

Sweet chain and crucifix.

It's not the detector, it's the detector. Get it?

Great find especially on a day when gold hit an all-time high.

Thanks, guys. I even remember the field test on this detector. Everyone wrote in that the tester was "biased" towards Garrett's because he noted he paid for the detector with the finds he found in the field test and the batteries were still going strong. Seems like the owner of my detector was excited also-he sold this one for $125 to me so he could get a Freedom III CDC with the new coil, etc. Yeah, I would've passed over it with the Ace-but it wasn't to be this. BTW, love that "it's not the detector, it's the detector". Yeah, I REALLY get it and love that. It's still kinda funny, though, that I have tried to figure every trick with my Ace to find lots of gold and then when I just go out to have a little fun-thar she blows. Gee, I feel a little philosophical with that one.:drinking:

Nice chain. It seems that is how things go sometimes--- bass ackwards. lol I think you should put some duct tape on that beautiful machine, give it some character, or should I say ,,more character.

I already have black tape around the handle-thought that was more colorful!

Yeah, appearance counts but not for much Slingshot.
I am thinking duct tape is a lot more classy.

well done on the gold, it seems to be the short hunts that can be very rewarding,,HH

Great finds, slingshot!! A good product like Garrett's is never out of style. I agree that it was your experience that carried the day, tho. I probably would have
missed it being a greenhorn. you never know.

Awesome!:super:Congrats on the gold!:cheers:WTG!:thumbup:Happy Hunting!:)
