remodeling and redecorating this old house.
It was built in 1920 and is shaped like a barn. The third floor is finished but just used for storage.
I am on the second floor now, the outside and first floor are pretty much finished. I am tearing off all the old wall paper and finding the old plaster walls look, well like old plaster walls. There are cracks here and there from years of setteling and some was caused by a dormer I had put on and a complete new roof. I am using texture paint and it is really looking great.
What I have found interesting though is now that I have gotten to the bedroom doors and bathroom door I find evidence that every door had a hasp on the OUTSIDE of the door. They all also had a small deadbolt on the OUTSIDE. I also found that the master bedroom door and the closet door in that room had been kicked in, at some time and repaired. This is sorta spooky
Several times in the past I have sworn that I saw a woman in that room at night. A woman that just disappeared as I stared.
A few years after I bought the place and I was living alone, I woke up and saw-I thought- a woman standing next to the bed, wearing dark robe or something like that. The lights were off of course. I didn't say anything, just stared. I get that way when the crap is being scared out of me. I looked away and then back and she was gone. Spooky.
Now I don't believe in ghosts or spirits but that is what I thought I had seen. There have been other occasions that I have felt a presence in that room but now I just lay there and talk to it.
It has been a few years since I have seen anything but Mary has mentioned she has felt something on occasion. I just told here that she was my friendly Ghost. Hell she ain't hurt anything
I just thought I would pass this along.
Those hasps are strange. They were locking something IN. The hasps are gone now but the screw holes are still there, painted over.

I was sceptical until I lived with a ghost.... Then I had no problems believing.

that first night was spooky. I had a number of lady friends and for a second I was wondering who the hell had dropped it but it wasn't one of them. Dang!
Maybe I can get her to move to Roscommon. Can get lonely up there

Have you ever done any research on the history of the house? Is this the only ghost that you have ever seen? Thanks for sharing this story, it is very interesting! Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas)

Chip the ice..shovel the walk..spread sand...fall down skiing..
Sounds as though you have a pretty full life up there

Do you think that a ghost could be something in limbo between life and death? In a way, I would like to see one, but at a distance where it could not do anything bad to me. Thanks for sharing, and please have a great day! Kelley (Texas)

When we first moved into this house, oh around 35 years ago, we were told that the house was haunted. I was a sceptical young man who knew everything and did not believe it.It did not take long for me to change that tune.
The house had a set of stairs going up which ended in a very small landing. The two upstairs bedrooms came off this landing. and that was all that was up there. We would be downstairs reading and we could hear very distinct footsteps going between the two rooms....not through the doors but through the walls.
No one lived upstairs [we used it for storage at that time] so there was no possible way for anyone to do this.
Our daughter was only 10 or so months at the time and this ghost played with her. We would wake up in the early morning [like 2 or 3] and hear her chuckling and laughing away. We would get up to see her, the laughing would stop and then we could 'feel' something leave her room.
But the best instance was when we had 2 young girls [I guess around 14-15 years old] who were boarding their horses at the barn. They would arrive by bus, which dropped them off at the driveway. They would walk up to the barn and get the horses out.
One morning, they came to the house, ash white and trembling. Seems as though they were walking up the driveway, our german shepherd came running down the driveway to greet them and he did every morning, and ran right through the girls.... I mean "right through' them. Our dog greeted them at the door when they came up to the house.
I was told that the lady in the house has "died before her time". A friend who was very much into this stuff at the time told us that. I am not certain about the dog though.
All the best

I have already told the story "Poppa Come Back" about my daddy visiting her and my grandson many years back.
Now, my middle daughter, Staci, has the recliner that mother always used. Ali has set in this chair since she was born, and laughed and cooed, and played with someone. She would laugh out loud, and Staci said she can just feel my mother's presence. Jackson, who is 2 also played and laughed with someone. Staci is convinced it is my mother.
To this day, both of them prefer to recline back in "Great Nanny's chair" to take a nap. Either one can be whining, or crying and the minute they sit in her chair, they become relaxed.
My mother died before ever getting to meet Jack or Ali, but they know who she is by photos, and stories we tell them, but who knows? They may know a lot about her from the visits we think the get from time to time!
It pulls at my heart strings, for sure!

Unexplainable things in the world.I can't say I have ever seen a ghost but know some people who swear they have.

or possibly a movie. I have never seen one, and to be honest, I do not want to see one in person...would rather see a picture or watch a true life movie of a ghost. That would be the safest way to see what one looks like. I would think that if you actually saw one in person, and you did something to make it mad, it could really do something bad to you! Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas)

I doubt that the locks were put there for the dead, but rather for the living. If the locks were placed high on the door, they were probably put there to keep small children out of those rooms. I had to do that to our bathrooms and office areas when my girls were small. I can't begin to tell you the things they could get into and do if I was on the phone, cooking in the kitchen or down in the basement putting in or taking out laundry.
My oldest daughter locked herself in the bathroom once, and I had to lie on the floor outside the door and talk to her and keep her cheered up until John got home and took the door off the hinges so we could get in.
Since the house is an old one, I can tell you that I have heard tales of some people keeping family members locked in their rooms years ago, to keep them out of trouble, or from harming themselves or other family members. Also, some people never wanted their communities to know that they had a person in their family who might be thought of as being insane, mentally challenged or even malformed.
Hope this helps to solve the question of the locks and put the ghosts to rest.
