This weekend was something else, that is for sure. Got to go out with Rich Alfano on Saturday with the new Explorer SE he bought from R&L Enterprises. He has mentioned already his finds in another post. WTG Rich!!! He didn't seem like he was doing that well but he had gone into the spot I took him too and had popped 3 Quarters before his Dime that he had found toward the end of the hunt. A Standing Liberty (No-Date) and 2 Washington's along with his 1940 Canadian Dime. He had a bunch of Wheats also and a Buffalo Nickel. I told him he had done great since getting 3 Silver Quarters was just awesome to do in one day. Hope you had fun Rich and at least it was better then the last site I took you too. Dale was also with on Saturday. He found a No-Date Standing Liberty Quarter, a Silver Washington Quarter, a few Silver Dimes that gave him a total of 7 Silver, at least that is what he says??? He also found an 1882 Indian Head and a bunch of Wheats also. Randy did well on Saturday and Sunday as well raking in 16 Silver for the weekend. He had an 1893-O Barber Quarter and the rest of the Silver was Dimes. He found 3 Tokens the lucky #*?#"!#. One from Montana and one from the town we were at. The other is just an older Token for Amusement. He also found a V-Nickel dated 1912 along with a bunch of older Nickels. He had a pile of Wheats also and a 1905 Indian Head. I figure that there was about 150 Wheats pulled in 1 1/2 days at this site and about 50 Silver or better and there is still plenty more where that came from. Now for what I found. The total for Silver this weekend was 21 not counting the War Nickel I got. The Silver finds were 1 Barber Half dated 1894-O, a No-Date Standing Liberty Quarter and a 1929 Standing Liberty Quarter, 2 Washington Quarters dated 1940 and 1954-d, 13 Mercury Dimes dated 1918,1923-s,1934-d,1935,1939,1941-s,1942-s,1943,1943-d,1944,1944-d,1944-s, and 1945-d, 2 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946 and 1947-d and 1 Canadian Dime dated 1952. I found 2 interesting finds that I thought were Play Money. On the front of them it says Red Goose Premium Money 1.00 and the back says For Boys / For Girls Red Goose Shoes / Half The Fun Of Having Feet. Could be a Token but not sure. I also found 2 older Nickels which include a Buffalo Nickel dated 1928-d and a Jefferson War Nickel dated 1945-d which has Silver in it. I found 3 Indian Heads dated 1883,1901,and 1902. I also found 2 Canadian Pennies dated 1947 and 1948. I found more than enough Wheats again with a total of 47. The dates are (4)1910,1911,1917,(2)1918,1919,(2)1920,1927,1928-d,1929-s,(2)1930-d,1931-d,(2)1934-d,1935,(3)1935-d,(2)1936-d,(2)1937,(2)1941-d,1944,(2)1944-d,1945,(4)1946-d,1948,1948-d,(2)1950-d,1952,(2)1952-d,(2)1957-d,and 1958-d. I also found a few Misc. Items. There are a bent Religious Medal,a Fishing Weight,2 Belt Buckles,2 Broken Keys,a Marble,an old Lip Stick, and a 2000 Dog Tax Tag. For Clad I found 14 Quarters,28 Dimes,3 Nickels, and 61 Pennies.[attachment 35554 Silver.jpg][attachment 35556 PremiumMoney.jpg][attachment 35557 Nickels.jpg][attachment 35558 IndiansandCanadians.jpg][attachment 35559 Wheats.jpg][attachment 35553 Misc..jpg]

Now I know and it sounds like Sunday wasn't as good as what was found on Saturday. You did well and wish I could have been there too as it sounded like a fun place, plus what many don't know this spot you were at is not a virgin spot and one that I am sure has been worked many of times, but it was not Explored was it??I bet those that thought it was cleaned out that live in that town would almost call you a liar if they see what was found there. I did this at a well worked park in Fargo with the Minelab Sovereign and when I showed this to the local dealer he called me a liar as his detector wouldn't find this, but after he got a Explorer he could see what a Minelab can do.
Glad to see everyone did well and I think Alfano would have done much better with the SE if he would have used it a few times before as this was his first time out with it.

Good finds James and Tim has called me 2 times in the last day to hear what you found, Think he is getting worried.

Rick

Wow, can't believe all the silver and wheats - it looks like you are hitting untouched spots. A haul like that is what they use to have when detectors first came out. Glad to see the stuff is still out there. Now I gotta find me some of those spots..... How much time did you put in for all that?

Barber Half - Very Sweet.

Mirage

About 17 Hrs or less detecting time. Half Day on Saturday, around noon till dark and on Sunday around 9:00am-10:00am till dark. This spot is somewhat virgin but I know it has been detected before just not with the Explorer's apparently. I myself couldn't believe that 4 Standing Liberty Quarters were found in the same day and that was Saturday. Unbelievable!!! Thanks Mirage for the post.

Tim is just lucky I didn't find Randy's Quarter he found or he would be in the hurt bag. But I have an 1883 Indian and I know at the moment that I will be in at least 2nd Place if no-one else finds one older than mine and Dale's Indian. If I return up to the spot next weekend, I invite you to come up. Just let me know and I can tell you how to get there. Thanks for the post Rick and I hope I see you tonight. I need some Silver cleaned. Imagine That!!!

Nothing like getting back into the groove of finding Silver in quantity and can't wait to see what my totals are for the years end.

Not only did you find the mother lode but I think you found the actual mint that made old coins. For all we know you may have even found the original dies they used. I never in my life have seen so many finds like what you get. Wow oh Wow is all I can say. Congratulations seem to small.

Can I follow you around sometime? Ha ha! Good going. I will post photos of my finds later. I was camping with 7 boys this weekend in northwestern ND at my great grandpa's farmstead (which now belongs to my dad). Again, my finds are pretty meager. One of my finds is most unusual, I think.

Anyway, commendations, kudos, congrats, good job and all that to you on good work.

If sometime I find a spot not too far away from you, I will gladly let you join in on the fun. Just have to locate one and get permission. This spot is over 100 miles from you so it is a bit of a drive where I found my latest finds. Look forward to hunting with you sometime and hopefully before the snow starts to fly. Good Luck and HH at your sites you have permission for and can't wait to see what you get.

It is truely amazing what still is waiting to be found if you do the research and find these special spots of long ago. If I can go out and find them, anyone can and I hope you can locate one of these sweet spots for yourself sometime. Sure was an awesome time and just think, what else still is waiting to be found is just too much suspense too handle. So far 14 or so Silver Quarters have been pulled in 3 trips, 2 Halves, about 30+ Silver Dimes, over 150 Wheats, 5 or 6 Indians, and the list just keeps going on and on. One heck of a hunt site if I do say so myself. Good Luck and HH at your sites and hope you have this kind of luck on any research you have done. :detecting:

James,

I think you are mining way too much silver around these here parts..
I hope you are going to leave some for the rest of us poor guys... Nice finds though...really like that Barber Half and those Standing Liberty's.

I will try and leave a few for you other detectorist's in these parts but it is addicting. Just like the GOLDRUSH! And just think this is the first spot of 3 different areas that will yeild this kind of finds. Makes your mouth kinda water doesn't it? Good Luck and HH and look forward to seeing you next month. Oh yea, I guess Tim is kinda worried about stealing 1st Place from him. Should he be????

James,

With finds like you had last weekend the race will tighten up I think! I have to go to Mayo Clinic for eye surgery next week Monday so my detecting will be limited for the next few weeks. I can only hope the weather holds out through October and into November so that I may be able to get out and make some good finds like you had there. HH!!

WOW!!!!! I would say you hit the mother load for sure this time James. I don't recall seeing so much silver in one photo before unless you slipped one in on me that I didn't get to see. That's it!! I'm moving to ND.............:) Keep up the wonderful finds buddy and look forward to your next great post. HH.

Eddie

Sure is amazing spots like this are still out in the wide open spots of some of the towns a person drives thru. Luckily, a little research found this one for me and there is yet 2 other spots that yeild this type of finds yet for me to hunt at. Could be an interesting end of the year finale for me with the silver count. And also Eddie, I did sneak one by you. Check down thru the older posts and you will see my post that says I Half to say, 2 First's this weekend and plenty of coins made for good hunting this weekend, or something like that. Good to here from you Eddie and Good Luck and HH.

Hope everthing works out for you and you are able to get out a few times before freeze-up. I sure would like to see you post a few more finds before the end of the year. Good Luck at the eye doctor and Good Luck and HH when you are able to return to detecting.

That way it leaves a little for the rest of us to find.
I am hoping to get my new SE soon so I can have James try it and see how it will compare to his XS and give us a good report.

Yes, there is a few good spots left but for the most part, everything has been hit before with older detectors. You just have to get lucky enough to hit a spot that has been overlooked or is unknown to very few people. Good Luck and HH on your next outing.
