...by the manufacturer of one of my favorite pieces of equipment, the Sun Ray probe, that many of the CZ users weren't familiar enough with his company to trust the quality he puts in his equipment.
Now true enough I am a Minelab user mainly but I do have an ID Excel. (I've been on Ralph for some time about a probe so I will take it out more..)
My point really is that most of us Minelab users have become so addicted to the Sun Ray accessories that I wouldn't think of going out the door without my probe on. You can check on the M.L. Forum and ask the guys about the quality of his products. I've used his coils large and small as well as the probe. He's an advertiser here but the users on the forums won't lie. (Actually I wouldn't either but I understand why my opinion would be suspect..) I cannot stand to dig a hole 8 to 10 inches deep without a pin point probe that will effectively reach out 3 to 4 inches and use the same circuits the main coil uses for the meter read out. Ralph is one picky guy about the stuff he sells. He probably is one of the lone rangers of after market products for a major brand where his stock is right up there with the manufacturer.
I am into camera's and I wouldn't think of buying an aftermarket product other than Canon for the Canon unless I do serious research. Sun Ray products are a lot like that. But don't take my word for it. Go on one of the forums where there are users already using his probe and after market coils. The Fisher probe and coils are new but don't be afraid of the manufacturer. One thing I can tell you. If Ralph is making an aftermarket coil, he's tested it against a factory coil and did better. Ralph isn't stupid. If e didn't have a better mousetrap he's of shelved it.
I know there are a few guys on here that seem to have made it their mission to sink the product. They don't own one so how can you listen to them. If you dig deep targets especially one's that have been missed by other machines you are probably digging an on edge or problem target anyway and you need a great probe. I wouldn't leave home without it...
Thanks for listening... Guvner..

I have been looking at the Sun Ray probe for my CZ 7 but the one thing that makes me hold back is the complexity of having all that cord to deal with, as I harness mount my CZ. The other potential problem I foresee is in pinpointing with VCO. In order to pinpoint on the CZ, you must press and hold the pinpoint button on the face of the CZ. How would this be quick and easy with the probe in one hand and pressing the button with the other. It would be even harder for someone that had the unit mounted in the standard way. When I am fussing around in a dug hole, I like to use one hand on the probe and the other to move the soil around. Could you post some clarification on this issue? I have been looking for someone in my area that is using the Sun Ray probe, but have not bumped into anyone yet.

I understand what your saying, but when I was using the probe on my CZ-7a I found out quite quickly you don't have to press the PP pad. I found it alot quicker & easier to just switch the box to "probe" & check the dirt & or hole that way. To me the VCO pinpoint is just an additional option that's available. The probe is so sensitive you really don't need it.....HH, Bill

as the Excel is the newer, hotter selling unit. I'd like them to do a 5" Excel coil too. Then, as you said, hopefully Sun Ray coinstrike accessories will follow. They are busy doing Garrett stuff at the moment, but I'll keep on them I'd really like to have that 12.5 coil on my C$ for England in September Watch out Colchester Chris...I'll be covering even more ground & findin lots more "tasty BC. gear"! BostonWill

Hey Ed in Medford, Not that Bill needs my O.K., but he is 100% RIGHT! After all, he did the field test on the probe for SunRay with a FISHER CZ. You have a Probe Control Box, that is mounted on the shaft of your detector. On the Probe Control Box is a toggle switch, that switches from Probe to Coil vice versa, and that's all you need to do. The shaft of the probe is hot from the tip of the probe to approx. 1" up the shaft from the tip of the probe. At least, that is what Ralph from SunRay Products told me, when I bought a DX-1 Probe for my WHITES MXT last year. You just swirl the tip of the probe around the bottom/sides of the hole to you get the sound audio of the target. It uses the exact sound audio target ID that your detector uses, in identifying targets.
For instance, if your detector is a multiple tone ID detector, then it will use the same multiple tone ID system when the probe is activated. Hope this helps, hh, NamVetLesTreasureSeeker

I will second what the Guvner is saying. Sun Ray puts out nothing but a QUALITY product. The few times I have heard of a product problem it was fixed immediately and without question. Do you think there's a reason Minelab users prefer the Sun Ray 8 inch coil over a Minelab made 8 inch coil? Quality and excellent sensitivity. Alot also prefer the Sun Ray 5 inch coil over the Excelerator 5 inch. If anyone doubts Guvner or I please post on the Minelab Explorer forum. Ask for their opinion of Sun Ray products. You will hear nothing but praise for Sub Ray products and support.
