The prize is a brand new uncirculated MS-60 Kennedy half straight from the mint. All you have to do is guess the date and mint mark on this Morgan silver dollar. Morgans were minted from 1878 through 1921. They carried four different mint marks, P - O - D -CC. Any four of you can post the same date as long as you have a different mint mark. In case of a tie or multiple correct answers I'll draw names for the winner. If there are no correct answers the answer closest to the correct date will be the winner. The contest will end Sunday night January, 18 at Midnight. One guess per person and the main rule is - YOU MUST POST YOUR ENTRY IN THE SUBJECT LINE . IF YOU DON"T YOUR ENTRY WON"T BE COUNTED.
I chose this dollar because it is part of some train robbery loot recovered in Belen, New Mexico back in 1990. My buddy, Ken Weinman, wrote an article some years back about this train robbery whereas $40,000 was stolen and buried, about half of it in silver dollars. Two guys living in Texas who used to live in Belen and knew the country well read the story and decided they would hunt for the loot. They spent nine weekends driving up from Texas and hunting for the stash with their detectors. On the last weekend they found and recovered the silver dollar portion of the outlaw buried loot. Good Luck.
