I went and did another field across the road and found four large cents.....so I think. The one in the close-up is a Draped bust type. The year is 179? ( 6,7,8 or 9). The next best coin has no detail on the obverse but can see some of the wreath and "one cent" on the reverse. The other two I see nut'n. One is so bad it has corroded right through in two spots......................I have only found one large cent before...no date. Out of a possible 20 date digits, I have seen 2 1/2. These coins where found at the bottom of a sloped field. It's damp as far as I can dig. The top is pretty dry.........maybe i can find a dated one there..............Rich

Anytime you find one large cent its a good day, I certainly think 4 qualifies as a great day. Old coppers take a beating if they're exposed to the weather (except in the desert), especially if commercial fertilizers have been used on the ground. But a site that yields four large cents surely has a silver coin somewhere. I'd keep that field secret and work it to death. HB

I found another yesterday evening. This was my first large cent that I could read "One Cent" as soon as I pulled it out. It had that flat black type of corrosion on it. Where ever the black was I could see detail. So not to loose any detail I thought that I would just clean it off lightly with soap, water and a soft tooth brush. Now I can only see "On en."
I can't understand how that stuff came off so easily. Your right, I should be thrilled and I am...but I would trade them all in for one with more detail and a date......( well, maybe not all of them)......will try again Wednesday.....thanks Rich
