after today's doctor visit I have bigger concerns. Scheduled for knee surgery on the 25th but before that was told to see the family doctor about how this impacts the blood thinners I am on for DVTs and PEs.
First time I have actually seen the doctor. Usually I see the PA and is she ever great. The doctor is not like most docs I have run across. He is GOOD and thorough.
I had expected him to say just stop taking the pills for about 5 days then do the surgery and then get back on the pills again. Sherry and I were totally taken by surprise when he recommended not to get the knee surgery given the past DVTs and PEs. He said knee surgery is not life threatening so it is elective surgery. In my case, he said the surgery though could cause blood clots and I could die. Soooo...live with pain and be alive or get the surgery with no guarantee it will do me any good and risk dying.
Also there are shots I would have to take (about 20 of them) before and after the surgery and these shots cost about $1,000. We don't know if WOrk Comp would pay that since it is a condition not part of the injury to my knee. At this point, I know I am not going to be 100% fixed by Feb 1. (The hotel staff also stopped calling me so thinking I have already been replaced.)
At this point, it looks like I might lose the Work Comp if I don't get the surgery and yet maybe die if I do...either way there would be no income to pay bills. Even with the surgery I have no idea if I will ever be able to return to the type of work I have done most of my life (maintenance, security work, police work, gardener, building custodian, small engine repair, etc.)
I am tiring of sitting around the house and not being able to do anything other than play with the computer - which I have grown somewhat bored with...even if I am learning about Linux. Anyway, just letting you all know what is going on and why I haven't been posting much.
Thinking about how this is going to affect metal detecting in the near future when the snow is gone.
Losing the job at work is no comparison to the possible loss of life. Besides the place really needs to be shut down....because of the leaking roof, the electrical hazards and most of all - all the black mold growing like wild fire. This alone is a blessing to not have to go back and have that all fall on my shoulders.

Hope I can find work somewhere else.
