I really get a charge out of reading and looking at your posts every Monday or Tuesday following your weekend hunts. It is better reading than most magazines and I for one appreciate you guys taking your time to share with everyone. I have been hunting for about 13 years and yesterday was only my third time finding three different dimes. I bought my first Explorer a year or so after they came out and my first three different dime day is still fresh in my memory. I arrived at the oldest town square around my neck of the woods and it was still dark. I went straight for the gazebo and within ten feet of it I found a silver dime that I couldn't completely make out in the dark. Less than ten feet away from the spot I found the first dime, I found another one. It wasn't until a half hour later when it got lighter that I found the first dime was a seated and the second a barber. Later in the morning I found a mercury dime to make my first trifecta. I was as close to having a four different dime day as I probably ever will be. Getting four different makes of the same coin is extremely hard especially if you are not in an old part of the country. I am making a New Years resolution to learn to post pictures on the computer(I am a block head when it comes to a computer) Pictures and great story makes for some great entertainment. Keep your posts coming! R.L.

I really enjoy getting out and making finds and posting them on the Explorer Forum for all to see. What really makes it special is the stories behind each and every hunt which in turn gives the reader like yourself a glimpse into what our hunts are like and what is going through our minds when we get specific Signals that just don't read like they should. That's when it starts getting interesting....thus passing on our knowledge to you....the reader, in hopes that if you encounter such Targets on your hunts, that you will remember to investigate them and make some great finds for yourselves. Even though it takes a lot of dedication to put down in words how our hunts go and what happened during them and to get the pics ready for each post, it truely is a great feeling to get positive feedback by the readers like yourself. This hobby is more rewarding than just finding Coins and other lost items from the past, but to bring fellow detectorists together like a huge family and exchange knowledge with one another and hope that the next time out, they too can have a very rewarding day while doing what they love for a hobby. I'm just like Bryce also. Once the Headphones go on and the Detector power's up, the real world is on pause for the moment and we as detectorists get a time to have some peace within ourselves and take a break from the "real world" and enjoy those few hours for the most of it. I'm happy with exchanging any knowledge with others because that's what this hobby is all about. Getting out and having fun! So thank you R.L. for the kind words and I will try my best to keep my posts as real as they can be each time I get out and hunt. Thanks again and Good Luck and HH on your next hunt.

I enjoy these stories too. They get the MD juices flowing. Like Issac Newton said,"If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants." It is by us gathered here standing on James/Bryce's shoulders and the many other here too who really know what they are doing that those picking up on this craft can learn very quickly from this precious collective source of MD knowledge. I can already see in my case how I have rapidly gained in proficiency of the SE from what I knew a few months ago by reading and asking questions and then putting into practice this accumulation on the field. Great Republic got me going on the AM-Ferrous tone way of hunting and in just 5 minutes I picked out a coin that 3-4 weeks earlier I found nothing in that same area that I sweeped for 2 hours. So I salute the veterans who share their knowledge and I look forward to logging on here throughout the day and every day. :yo:

you enjoy the posts...and I hope others too who have read even just one of my posts over the last couple of years can see the shear joy this hobby has given me. It is about the fun...peace...calmness...friendship..thrill of the unknown...serenity...just shear joy that swingin' the coil brings. That feeling has not changed since the 70's when I started detecting...and it will NEVER change.
I have had so many amazing personal detecting moments this year...and I'm glad I have the people on this forum to share them with. I try to do my best at conveying the experience into my posts.
I remember finding my first Barber half this year...and literally being frozen...not being able to move other than the shaking and trembling that was going on....only to find a second one...20 minutes later...20 feet away...which almost caused a change of shorts.:bouncy:
Then there was the time very early this year that I found a full coin purse...and an older one at that. It was chocked full and was pretty deep. I remember not opening it...and just getting in the car to drive the seemingly long drive home....and trembling with anxiety all the way. I was chomping at the bit to open it....but wanted to savor the moment of being able to sit down at my desk with a big grin on my face as I opened it up to see all the gold and silver come out. Well when I finally had the courage to open it...all the coins did come out..and just like I thought...that baby was chocked FULL......but of 1960's clad. SO WHAT...I will never forget that thrill of not knowing what was in that purse...and when it came right down to it...it did not matter what was in it. That thrill I had was absolutely priceless and means every bit as much as all the nice stuff I've found over the last many years.
Again...thanks for the kind words...and congrats on the 3 different dime day you had. That is a truly awesome feeling to hit the "trifecta"...and I could feel the excitement through your post. Thanks for the nice comments buddy...I appreciate it and I know James does too. Take care and good luck popping out some more silver.
