It can be implemented in either your jumpstart topology or mine. When I drew out the schematic topologies of both, I never included a current limiting resistor because I thought the primary objective was to get rid of the current limiting resistor, which these topologies make it advantageous to do.
In all the PI machines I've built (about 20), I have not once ever used a current limiting resistor, except temporarily when messing around with a bench test setup to look at waveforms; nor do I believe the transmit power drain exceeded 100 milliwatts on any of them. Of course I admit they weren't SD's!
