Has anyone ever used a 5x10 Coiltek Joey coil on there Sov.GT and does it get better depth then the stock 10" Tornado coil ? Thanks for any help Jim :minelab:

yes I have used it and no it does not get better depth than the stock 10" coil. It is however, very light to swing and seperates very well. It is not waterproof.

Thanks Neil so much for that coil i would need water proof :minelab: Jim

Jim, Coiltek makes a 8.5" x 11.5" model for the Sovereign GT that is waterproof. It is called Platypus.

George

Hi deepdiger60......are you looking for a smaller coil??

Hi scoper i was thinking about getting a smaller coil for trashy area,s i hunt a lot of fields and woods i wanted a small SEF but i heard the pro,s and con,s about if you have Ron,s Insight meter it wont work with a SEF coil ?? to many opinions ,other then a small coil the Platypus.looks good Thanks for asking Jim

If you mean Ron from Michigan's homemade meter in the other thread it should work just fine with the SEF. It's the Insight meter that somebody installs in the speaker hole that won't work with the SEF. Somebody a while back sent me a possible fix for the insight meter that might make it work with the SEF. It was from the guy who makes the meter but if I remember right he hadn't tested it. Again, if memory serves, it was changing a jumper on the coil cable but I don't know for sure.

It would be a shame to miss out on the little sef coil.I use one on one of my other detectors and i will never take it off....it's brilliant.I am thinking about trying one on the sov but i already have the little joey which i enjoy using.....it's lightweight and sensitive. However, the 8x6 has increased my finds rate on my fields with my other detector so i may get one for the sov as well.Decisions, decisions:shrug:

They don't make an SEF 8x6 coil for the Sovereign. Well, I think they did over in Europe for a little while. I remember some guy on here a year or so ago saying he bought the last one. There is the S-5 by Sunray and the Excelerator 5" coil. The S-5 is 5.5" in diameter. Not sure what the true size of the Excelerator is. I own an S-5 and of course it has excellent seperation. It's depth to me is impressive. It air tests on a silver dime at I think about 7 or 8". That's pretty impressive when you consider in my soil that most of the detectors I've owned would only get about 7.5" of depth using a standard 8 or 9" coil.
