Hi, All. I've been lurking on here for awhile now but thought I'd finally say hello. I don't have a picture yet to post but here are details on a few of my finds from my last two hunts. I started hunting my brother's yard (house was built in 1870). So far no silver but my brother says it was hunted already by a couple of guys 2 years ago. They may have gotten all the silver but I still got some goodies. Here's the list.

Hubley Texan Jr. cap pistol complete with only the grips pieces rotted away.
2 Tootsie Toys and 9 other Hotwheels.
1912, 1927, 1942 and 1946d Wheat cents
2 Chuck E. Cheese tokens
James Buchanan Presidential data token

And my oldest coin to date. An 1858 Flying Eagle cent (in very worn condition) But it is older than the Civil War so I'll take it :)

Welcome to the site! it sounds like you are doing just fine to me. You are getting some great finds and having fun. Good job on the Flying Eagle! I had to look it up that is a very cool coin, Beale.

Welcome to the site, I too am new here and have had nothing but good honest advice and friendly feedback, and I will bet that the last guys did not get ALL of the silver. I own a home in another town that was built in 1900 and believe it or not have not searched it yet because I want to learn my machine a little better first. have fun....Boris

Welcome......:detecting: swing that thing...and Good Luck:jump: TomB

Especially when you've found a Flying Eagle cent! Tough find to make around here. Grid that yard out and it from every imaginable direction. There might still be a few old dimes hiding in there somewhere. If there is, the X-Terra will sniff them out for you. HH Randy

Thank you for all the incouraging responses. I have hunted half the yard from one direction so I still have a lot of hunting to do. It has been tough going so far. I get 4 to 5 iron hits on every swing. With any luck, that iron is hiding some silver. I almost tossed the Flying Eagle cent, I thought it was just a copper slug. The only detail left is the basic shape of the eagle and "858" in the date. On the obverse you can hardly make out the outline of the wreath. Is there any way to draw out more detail without ruining the coin? By, the way, my brother said I can do "whatever" to the yard, neatness isn't necessary to find the good stuff.

Maybe a light brushing with a tooth brush and soap. Then wipe some olive oil on it. I don't think you should use harsh chemicals or electrolysis.

Here are a few pictures. Wish me luck for hunting the second half of the yard. I forgot to mention the Moose head door knob(?) and what I think is a harmonica reed in the second photo. Thanks for looking.

Nice finds. Those harmonica reed plates are all over our Goldfields down here in Oz. I am guessing every second prospector owned one and can only imagine what the Aussie bush sounded like all those years ago each night. Must have scared all the wildlife to the next state. Probably why there are so many Kangaroos in NSW.

Nice finds you have there. Don't give up on the silver just yet.... If you are finding wheaties, there has got to be some silver coins left too!!
Good luck,
Felix
