and it's a wonder what you don't find sometimes. I don't get very many chances to beach detect, so I usually don't do all that well. The beaches weren't all that crowded and I didn't find squat, their still pretty clean, not even many pull tabs. I was hunting a 1500 and didn't experance any trouble in wet sand or dry. There just wasn't any targets. Did run into a old local who had found a diamond/gold ring last week. [he was wearing it] Not finding anything on the beach, I started to hunt up close to the hotels, beach entries and off the sunning decks. Did much better up along there, but still not a whole lot. Scratched a little up around the campground we stayed at. All in all I felt like a fish out out of water. Things will pick up along the beaches as it gets deeper into summer, but for me it was hard to believe how much I didn't find. I've been pulling some long days at home so I don't have alot of time to hunt right now. Good luck to you all.

Do they use beach sweepers there? If so you'll have to get in ahead of them.
Bill

Bill we have those dang city employees with the beach sweepers here and they know what kind of goodies are at the beaches. Last yr. after the forth of July and our annual Cherry Festival was over I hit the Beach early (bout 7 AM) and was actually chased off the beach by one of them!!! BUT this year I said screw them and took that week off for vacation. and I will be down at the beaches every night.
During the Cherry Festival which is a week long event we have roughly 500,000 people coming through this town, and half of them hit the beaches especially for the fireworks displays on the 4th of July and the last night of the festival for that fireworks display as well. Last yr just at the main beach I'm guessing there was prolly 2500 people on that one beach.....imagine all the goodies

Yeah make dang sure you beat those cherry picking sweepers to all the goodies, or apply for a job running one of them.
Bill

Yeah, and they work. I'm telling you that you can go a long ways without a hit of anykind, even junk.

Yeah they pick them clean that's for sure. Too bad we don't own one.

that would be cool to have that job, heck I'd offer to work all the overtime for free I can just imagine how much change, watches, rings ect. those guys find.

I just got back from Atlantic Beach, NC, and I did find some coins (new), but didn't find anything of real value. I was at the beach on vacation for a week with the family, and probably hunted for 8 hours total the entire week. I looked under piers, in the darker sand, lighter sand, etc., but there just wasn't much there. I did notice that in the all-metal mode, I would get a lot of false hits near the salt water, but what I enjoyed most was the easy recovery from the sand. I have one of the perforated stainless steel scoops, and it made short work of recovering what goodies I did find.

No they don't use any sweepers at Atlantic Beach. The density of the tourists is just a lot lower than at Myrtle Beach. I went to Myrtle Beach on vacation from '98 - '02 every year during the week of July 4th, and the number of people was crazy! Now that my stepdaughters are in college, my wife and 8-year old daughter prefer a little peace and quiet at the beach.
