Just got a F22

Tot Lot Bandit

Well-known member
with standard 9" coil. I see some are offering them with the 11" DD coil now. Has anybody noticed any difference in depth between the two?

I got the 11" DD today. Doing air test it hits a solid 9" on dimes and 10" on quarters with sensitivity maxed to 10. That's a good 1-2" better than the 9". Not bad for a $219 detector.

Good luck detecting with your new detector. keep us posted about your finds.

Did my 1st hunt Saturday at a park I've hunted 3 times before. Found 33 dimes ( 1-1950 Silver), 11 quarters, 1 nickel and probably 50 pennies. Hunt is on my Dig-a-holic YouTube channel.

Seems like a really good park machine.ive been looking at them myself,I saw some pretty good videos on the f22 and f44..Congrats on the new machine and finds.

Just found out that my F22 will not pick up Indian Heads in coin mode. Have to use artifact mode. It does pick up wheaties though.

Answered this in another forum too but here...

It is acting perfectly.
Look at the table in late 16 of the manual online.
In coin mode zinc is in but the next level down, (#4, aluminum), is a bass tone...guess where the Indians are coming in?
If you are listening for a n aluminum, zinc or higher tone in coin mode swinging over one of these you will be out of luck.
That area that says aluminum is just a general reference, the composition of the Indians come in here too and they ain't made of aluminum.
Any other programs like relic or jewelry the coin, all coins, will be noticed.

Me, I used an F2 and rarely notched out anything but iron...take no chances, I say.
I might not dig everything all the time but I want to know about most everything I am swinging over so I can make that choice.
Found a ton of coins and a shocking amount of silver and gold jewelry with the thing hunting that way.

I think you are a little confused about what metals come in where...This was printed on the bottom of an old Whites unit and it should help.
Ignore the numbers, look at the positions.

That was me on other forum too...lol Mojave1

Yea, I know.
Hiding behind that big, fake handle bar mustache can't fool me.

Back in February of '81, before the change-over to the Copper-plated Zinc Cent, I had already determined there were some composition flaws in the purity of the 95% Copper Cents of long ago. That was discovered by killing wintertime in my shop and tinkering with several TR-Disc., VLF/TR-Disc. and VLF- (motion) Disc. detector Discrimination settings. Then when the new Zinc Cents showed up, and before the manufacturers had figured out on the earliest TID models in '83 that Zinc Cents had a lower conductivity than Copper Cents, I already was aware that those 'Zincolns' had a lower Disc. reading than the modern Copper Cents, but fell in a similar lower-conductivity range like most of the Indian Head Cents as well as many early mintage Wheat-backs from 1909 to about the 1920's.

For me back thirty-seven or so years ago it was "Interesting, the new Zinc Cent reads lower like many early mintage Cents." By the time we hit the late '80s and into the '90s, the Zinc Cent had been around for a decade and were in abundance in our finds in modern, local activity Coin Hunting sites so it was easier to describe the mintage phenomena the other way around: "Most Indian Head Cents from late 1864 through 1909, and most early Wheat-back Copper Cents from 1909 through about 1920 or so, were made of a lesser quality (read conductivity) copper alloy and generally have a lower TID read-out that is similar to most Zinc Cents." So this sis just a little heads-up regarding the ability to find ALL of the Wheat-back Cents.

I use a pair of F44's and never, I mean never, select the preset Coin mode. That's because I never use Notch Discrimination since there are way too many favorable targets that can fall in those rejected segments. Usually I'll hunt in the Jewelry mode where only where most Ferrous targets are rejected, or I use Artifact to Accept the ferrous range. Most of the time, if not using Jewelry mode, I search in the Custom program where I have determined the audio Tone ID responses I prefer to hear and that gives me the high-tone for ALL of the more commonly used US coins.

Just a little heads-up.
