Just got another MX5

About 3 months ago I sold my MX5 to a new member of our metal detecting club who didn't yet have a metal detector and was looking for a good reasonably priced detector. Well, I really missed it, and regretted selling it, so I just bought another one on ebay. The seller said that he only turned it on once when he got it to see it worked, and never used it. It still has about a year of warranty left on it. I got it for $399 including shipping, which is $1 less that what I sold my other one for.

Congrats on acquiring the best choice of White's metal detectors............

Now all you need is the 5.3 Eclipse coil to complete your MX5, my stock coil has been stored away as I use the small coil all the time. I found that this detector works well in Coin mode, 2 tone and all metal accept. It has great separation qualities when used in the iron infested sites that I hunt at.

despite its horrible design flaws $ for $ the best detector on the market  and I have to say that because I have 7 coils to use on it :chase: have the 5.3 haven't even taken it for a spin yet

Add me to the list of MX5 owners. Got a great deal and it should be here Sat. Eager to get out and this time really give it a try. In the past when they came out, I already had a MXT Pro and M6 and didn't get one. After posting to the thread ( coinmaster GT vs Ace 400) it got me to thinking and decided to get one and give it a work out :)

I do have the 5.3 eclipse coil, and that is the one that I was going to put on it. That is the coil that I used on my other MX5, 99 percent of the time. It just seems to be a perfect match with the MX5. I have had both the V3i and the VX3, and I sold both of them. I like the MX5 better than either one of them. It is like a lighter, digital version of the MXT. As I get older, I really appreciate the lighter weight of the MX5. I can swing it a lot longer without my back hurting.

The MX5 is the cream of the Whites crop when it comes to being the best buy in their current line up in my opinion ( and others as well ) . The only flaw to me and there is only one is the jack location and if that's bothersome you always can pick up or make a angle plug (male) w/short cable and a 1/4" female plug and clip it on the left side . But it has never bothered me . Multi coil choices makes this the perfect Whites .
Some of those who bashed them for no reason are going to see they didn't have a clue what they were talking about . Enjoy your MX5 ! Woodstock

Anyone use the shooter coil? For months now I've had a hard time choosing the shooter or the eclipse. The reviews say the eclipse but my heart says shooter!:stars:

I have both and about 1/2hr on the shooter and zero on the 5.3 and I need some more coils :punch: seriously and I don't have a problem do I  the shooter is small and it works well on the MX5 the other one well I haven't even plugged it in

so I am of no help at all am I , but my thinking is the round one will sniff out some deep coins in trash and the shooter more a jewellery or modern coin hunter.

just can only swing one at time :ranting:

The MX5 uses the "Eclipse" series of coils. So I am guessing when you say eclipse coil you are referring to the Eclipse 5.3 coil. If I could only have one coil it would be the 5.3 first and a 9" Spider coil 2nd. With those two coils I'm mostly covered. I don't see the Eclipse 4x6 shooter having much of any advantage over the 5.3 other than it is nice for poking around in tight spots and under sage brush. The concentric 5.3 will have a tighter VDI and discriminate iron better. I have plucked little tiny pants rivets out of the iron in ghost towns using the 5.3 on my MXT or M6, its a hard all around coil to beat, and in reality they are both a 6" coil, the 5.3 being about 6 1/2 " I have a 4x6 and do use it once in awhile. If you are looking for a small DD coil to use on your MX5, I have had good luck with the 5" round excelerator coil.
