just got ex2

I'm a nooby with the ExpII as well. But I have'nt had a problem with the "learning curve" as of yet. Just leave it in full auto for a couple battery changes to get the feel of it. DONT mess with the right off. Then ease into the settings and change some that you KNOW what it changes by using the book as a guide. Works for me so far, and I find a few wheats and clad about every time I get a short hunt in this fall/winter season, even got my first Mercury Dime in front of my house in FROZEN ground. LOL Good luck, its a great machine. Maybe you can drop ME a tip soon! Happy hunting man.

good advice ,soon get into man sens for depth, stay in coin jewlry and learn the tones set your gain at 7 or 8 so it amplifys those deep signals dig true clean tones dont try to interupt iffy weird tones go for solid consistent tones even like that youll dig better than any machine out there.Oh yeah hunt in the smart find screen to give you better data as to what your digging i.e. posistion of the icon and the sound it makes after awhile youll tell yourself before you dig thats a shotgun shell or a indian head dual digital reminds me to much of an xlt but alot of people use it coming from a soveirgn. its all preference, but do set your sens to 1 in man and air test certain items to get used to the tones ,remember its not a airtest machine have fun.

Do a search on the findmall classroom forum for any question you have and it's probably there. Everyone who first gets an Exp II has the same exact questions (I sure did)

Got any mulch playground in your area? If things aren't too frozen it's an easy dig. Nice place to practice (the beach too) because you'll want to dig everything just to get an idea of how things sound.

If you don't have a pinpointer, I'd recommend you get one. After a while, you'll dig some fairly deep holes and a good pinpointer (I have the X-1) will save some time and possible damage from nicks...

At home, tape some coins to the bottom of a piece of cardboard and practice pinpointing outside.

As someone else said, don't go crazy with the settings until you get to know what a good target sounds like. Above all, be patient. :) It'll be worth it...
